Biography
This was Vice Vukov's first participation for Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest. He would return in 1965 with Ceznja. (René van der Drift)
Vice Vukov was born in Šibenik (on the Adriatic coast in Croatia). He was the superstar of the 60's. His status could be compared with that of Domenico Modugno or Claudio Villa in Italy, although both his Eurovision entries were disasters (at least seen as such - a typical newspaper headline: The ships have sunk! (Brodovi=Ships)). He won many festivals all over former Yugoslavija and was twice second in the Intervision festival (The Eastern European version of the ESC). He was also very popular in the Sovjet Union where he toured extensively. His career came to an abrupt end in 1971 during the political purges in Croatia. He was accused of nationalism and he could not perform. His songs were not played on the radio anymore. Some radio-stations even destroyed his records in their archives. He took a job in a Zagreb company and started to study, he even achieved a M.A. in international politics. He started to reappear in public with democratisation in the late 80's.
