Biography
Anneke Grönloh started a successful singing career in 1962 and her first 4 singles (Brandend Zand, Paradiso, Soerabaja and Cimeroni) all hit the no. 1 spot in the Netherlands in 1962 and 1963. Her fifth single Wladimir was a number one hit in some East European countries, but stopped short of the no. 1 spot in the Netherlands. Anneke started 1964 with another top 10 hit, Rozen Zonder Doornen. And so it was no surprise the Dutch jury asked Anneke to sing the Dutch entry for the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest. Strangely Jij Bent Mijn Leven didn't get a high placing. Neither in the contest (10th out of 16) nor in the Dutch charts (it stalled at no. 43). Undeterred she recorded her version of Lucille Starr's The French Song (Quand Le Soleil Dit Bonjour Aux Montagnes). And at the end of 1964 Lucille was the no. 1 in the Netherlands and Anneke was in the runner-up position with her version Schemering. Schemering was also Anneke's last hit. Although Anneke still records at a regular basis she only had near hits with songs like Hasta La Vista Mańana, Santo Domingo, Rolling Stones And Ringo and That's What Friends Are For. Maybe her 1998 single Kijk Me Wat Langer Aan can turn the tide for her.
