Biography
Matt Monro (born Terry Parsons) started his career in the late 50's, but he had to wait until 1960 for his first hit to chart in the UK charts. Portrait Of My Love reached the no. 3 spot in 1961, later that year followed by another UK top 5 hit My Kind Of Girl, a no. 19 hit in the USA that year. After some minor hits Matt returned to the UK top 10 with the song Softly As I Leave You. But he wasn't quite able to follow up this hit. His Eurovision entry I Love The Little Things didn't even reach the UK singles charts in 1964, although it did spend 6 weeks in the EP charts, reaching no. 16 there. Revenge came, when he had Don Black translate Udo Jürgens entry Warum Nur, Warum? as Walk Away. Reaching no. 4 in the UK, it even managed to crack the US top 30. His last big hit came in 1965, when he charted with a song The Beatles finally released in the UK 11 years later. Yesterday was a hit all over Europe and the USA for The Beatles. But thanks to them not releasing it in the UK at the time, Matt had the hit with the song in the UK. Matt Monro died in 1985.
