Like the year before, the BBC has internally chosen its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest: Kathy Kirby should fly the UK flag in Naples. Like Matt Monro in 1964, she presented six songs in a national final.
For the first time, everyone was allowed to cast its votes since the postcard voting was introduced. I belong was the clear winner receiving about 15,000 postcards more than the runner-up.
All songs were published on an EP; that means that all national final entries were actually recorded which was also a novum.
