Biography
Lenny Kuhr had her first hit in the Dutch charts after she won the Eurovision Song Contest. In many respects De Troubadour was her first: as a Eurovision entry and as a hit. It was quite difficult to find a follow-up to her first hit and it would last until 1972, before she had her next hit, De Generaal. Some small hits followed, but after 1976 her hits dried up. In an attempt to return to the charts she teamed up with the famous French group Les Poppys, a group that had already proved successful in the 70's with hits like Non, Non Rien N'A Changé and Des Chanson Pops. This proved a success, as their single Visite soared into the top 10 in early 1980 and eventually stalled at no. 2. The biggest success ever for Lenny Kuhr in the Dutch charts. A second single Maar Ja, this time without Les Poppys, and an LP Dromentrein also charted, but at the end of 1982 Lenny disappeared from view once again. A period followed in which Lenny recorded some religious material. But it would take another 16 years for her to return to the charts again, when her album Stemmen In De Nacht spent some weeks in the Dutch album charts. This album marked another career change, as the album mainly consisted of new age songs.
Lenny Kuhr was backed on stage by guitar-player Piet Souer. Piet would eventually write the music to Sing Me A Song (Netherlands 1983) and the words to De Eerste Keer (Netherlands 1996).
