Biography
Before the Eurovision Song Contest Micha Marah (real name: Aldegonda Leppens) had had some hits in Belgium in 1971 with the songs Tamboerke, Lange Haren and De Jongens. Soon afterwards her chart career in Belgium dwindled, although she remained fairly popular. When in 1979 the juries decided that Micha Marah would participate for Belgium with the song Hey Nana, she tried to get the song disqualified, because she preferred to sing another song from the National Final (Comment ça va). It didn't work and she withdrew her participation. After the BRT had found another singer to sing Hey Nana, Micha decided that she would participate after all. The other singer was Sonja Pelgrims, who would be back on the Eurovision front in 1987, when she participated in the Belgian final with Casanova. In the 80's Micha Marah teamed up with her Belgian colleague Mieke and German singers Dennie Christian and Freddy Breck to record the hit Echte Vrienden Blijven Vrienden and the Christmas album Vrolijk Kerstfeest. And when the name Mieke sounds familiar: she participated in the Belgian finals of 1993 (Waarom Zou Er Vrede Zijn) and 1996 (Op Dit Moment). The last song was released as a single by Willeke Alberti (Holland 1994) in 1997.
