Biography
1980 saw Katja Ebstein (born Karin Witkiewicz 09-03-'45 in Girlachsdorf) participating in the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany for the third time in her career. After her second participation in 1971 Katja chose to put some more variation in her repertoire and recorded ballads, up-tempo songs and mixed them with an album's worth of poems of Heinrich Heine set to music. Hits like In Petersburg ist Pferdemarkt and Wein' Nicht Um Mich, Argentinien followed, but it took Ralph Siegel to get Katja back to the top in 1980 with Abschied Is Ein Bichen Wie Sterben. Theater continued that success, but slowly the success dwindled once again. Katja Ebstein however is still one of the big names in the schlager business.
