Biography

Daníel, born in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 26 1969, but raised in Reykjavík, is a relative newcomer to the Icelandic music scene, having debuted with his own rock group just two years ago. In spite of his young age he is a talented vocalist; but not surprisingly, since he is the son of one of Iceland's most popular rock singers of the late fifties. Daníel had some success with his performance and first recordings with his band in 1988, attracting the attention of Valgeir Guðjónsson and others. When Valgeir approached Daníel, he was not too eager to participate in the National Song Contest. He did not consider himself ready. Once persuaded to give it a try, the public loved his modest approach and sophisticated performance.

THE CHORUS: Eva Ásrún Albersdóttir. Eva Leila Banine, Karl Örvarsson and Krisján Vidar Haraldsson.

Valgeir Guðjónsson, born in Reykjavík on January 23, 1952, pursued music as a hobby while still in his teens. But for the last 10 years he has been a professional musician, and composer of music and lyrics. Valgeir has been a member of three of Iceland's most popular groups and has had a great influence on other musicians with his song writing. He has recorded two much-acclaimed solo-albums, written a popular musical and composed music for four motion pictures, in two of which he acted. In 1987 his song "Hægt og hljótt", performed by Halla Margarét Árnadóttir, was the Icelandic entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. This time, Valgeir Guðjónsson, chairman of the Icelandic Songwriter's Association, chose newcomer Daníel to perform his song " ÞAÐ SEM ENGINN SÉR". Valgeir's popularity may be measured by the fact that for the last two years his compositions have been the most played songs on Icelandic Radio. [Notes from the Official 1989 programme]
