Biography
Anna Mjöll Ólafsdóttir (26) from Reykjavík grew up with parents who had their own band. She learnt from an early age that music was life, and learnt to play the piano, the guitar and the cello. When she was 18, she starred in the musical Guys and Barbiedolls. She recorded her first solo CD the following year. Since then, Anna has studied music in Paris and Los Angeles. At the moment she is working on a new CD with her band Garden of Joy.
Iceland's contribution to EuroSong will be performed by Anna Mjöll, and has been composed and written in collaboration with her father, Ólafur Gaukur. He has had a lot of experience in the music business: through his many talents as composer, arranger, songwriter, producer and artist, he has been involved with the release of well over 100 record albums. He has also written music for television and film, directs his own music school in Reykjavík and has often appeared with his own band live or on TV. His wife, Svanhilður, who used to be the vocalist in their band is now a well-known producer on Icelandic television. [Notes from the Official 1996 Programme by NRK]
