Biography
In May 1998, the trio SKAMP hit the music scene in Lithuania with a cover version of Gershwin’s "Summertime". The number shot straight to the top of the charts. Since then, the group has released three albums and is one of the most respected bands in Lithuania having won a long list of music awards along the way.
SKAMP consists of Erica Quinn Jennings, Viktorias Diawara and Vilius Alesius, who were all involved in writing the song. They like to experiment with different musical styles and have worked with jazz, blues and classical musicians. Their broad musical interest is perhaps due to their very varied cultural backgrounds: Erica Quinn Jennings is from Ireland, Viktorias Diawara is originally from Mali while Vilius Alesius was born and raised in Lithuania.
In many ways, SKAMP has set new standards in Lithuania by being behind the largest advertising campaign in the country and only performing live onstage in all venues, form school halls to stadiums.
The group is also involved in social issues and has worked in several projects including one to get students, parents and teachers to discuss and deal with difficult current issues like violence, harassment, drugs, etc. At the moment, they are working with the The British Council, The Goethe Institute and The French Cultural Center on a project about tolerance.
