Number one in Ultratop 50

Belgium: Ishtar is Number 1

O Julissi Na Jalini, the Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, has reached the first place in the Ultratop 50 single charts in Flanders. Just like the previous two editions of Eurosong - won by Xandee and Kate Ryan - Eurosong 2008 offers the winner a number one hit in the charts.
Ishtar entered the Ultratop 50 at number seven last week. This week the group climbed to the first place. The winners of Eurosong traditionally score well in the charts since the introduction of Ultratop 50, the official single charts in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels. Also Xandee with 1 Life in 2004 and Kate Ryan with Je T'Adore in 2006 reached the first position in the Flemish single charts after their Eurosong victory.

Lisa Del Bo reached the second place with Liefde Is Een Kaartspel in 1996. Vanessa Chinitor with Like The Wind in 1999 and Sergio with Sister in 2002 both reached the third place.

In my strictly personal opinion, this is by far the best song for this year. Along with the Bulgarian and the Irish entry, I think they are the top contestants.

Of course, politics always play a major part for most of the potential voters when deciding to cast their vote (or votes), but Sanomi almost won 5 years ago (actually they would have won, if that unfortunate incident related to that year's Irish vote had not happened) and Finland won in 2007.

Furthermore, always according to my humble opinion, contrary to what happened last year, this year there isn't any special song "running" for countries that traditionally gain points out of the so called "political vote" (like Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, Greece, etc).

So here are the 3 medalists for me:

1. Belgium (Gold)
2. Ireland (Silver)
3. Bulgaria (Bronze)

Kisses :-)

It is true that I do not think that Ishtar could be a hit in Wallonia, with regard to the availability in the stores, it is necessary to ask the Flemish distributors, because it is not the first time that songs Flemish are untraceable in the French-speaking part, the opposite too. But in Switzerland it is also the case Serroen, two cultures different it is true, but two countries I do not think. The same thing for the dvd. In flanders currently it is almost impossible to find one DVD with the French language, for example Spanish or Italian is more findable, but that I think that it is only political and sad...

This could have been a winner in the 60s...

This song is way better than sanomi in my opinion and there is no point in comparing the two as they are nothing alike.

Ishtar is great!

It falls in the exact same category of cool as Amélie does :D

Like you said, Max & tk,
Song's good, singers cute, act is great - it just sends out these vibes of simple pleasure, just like Amélie.... yeah, definitely in my top three this year! :D :)

yes Amelie, but it's the perfect soundtrack for Odette Toulemonde. Fantastic song, fantastic movie.

Ishtar - the flame of hope in this year's Contest ;)...

I wanted them so much to win and that they now climb # 1 is really a good sign.
The song itself in combination with this sweet lead singer is not to beat, it's so endlessly charming...
Of course, it has nothing to do with Urban Trad. Honestly, I don't think that the common Eurovision viewer remembers that Belgium used an imaginary language five years ago and even if - I don't think he'd care...
The comparison with Amélie is exactly how you can describe it. I love Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain and Audrey Tautou - and O Julissi Na Jalini would fit perfectly...

@Finn P,

Thank you Finn,I hope too a Good Result for Netherlands !

But it's true I don't like the belgian entry this year, and I still to say Eva was the best song, and Satyn was not bad.
But I hope a good result for ishtar it's normal,I'm belgian!
But unfortunately I don't believe that this song can make a good result in May...i wait to see...

@ Jacques:

Oh well, fair enough. Seeing as this entry represents you both I didnt want to leave out either one... especially since I know its kind of a hot issue in Belgium at the moment (congratulations on getting a government by the way!)....

But a shame you don't like it - I still hope you do well, ESC has not been very kind to Belgium lately.

And people - comparing this to Sanomi (except they're both very good of course) is really ridiculous . everyone with ears can hear the music is so different!

I still say, veel succes et bonne chance Belgium!

This one and Bosnia's song are the 2 most original songs this year. I'll be very happy if some of them wins.

It is true ,it is not necessary to compare Urban trad and Ishtar, except the imaginary language ( not the same one), they do not have anything in common...

Jacques Dusart [34344]

@Finn P,

The Walloons do not have anything to make with the poor entry of this year...And it is not theirs fault either!

I hope Turkish 12 will not go to armenia ( luckily horrible azerbaijan will not be in the final) and 12 will go to Belgium ;)

It has totally nothing to do with Sanomi so stop comparing.
If this is a boring song, you will fall asleep during Norway, Romania, Lithuania, Montenegro,...!

@ Darko s:

Amelie, of course! You're right. That must be why I like it so much :)

This song gives you hope for the future of Eurovision... Just when you think we will forever be seeing either boring songs like Russia or Ukraine, or gimmick entries like Ireland (or wannabe gimmicks like Estonia, Spain) - a little gem of originality comes along, like this one.

Thank you Ishtar & Dank u Vlaanderen (Wallonie ook hoor :P) - you keep hopes of good music in Eurovision alive!

I love Belgium, but this song drives me up the wall. I have to go listen to Laka (Almost as daft, but doesn't get stuck in my head)

And I still think it might win.

Boring song !!!

Good Luck Belgium (You will need it,as you are still from west)

It's true, it's very Heidi in a way. La vache qui rit too. A decidedly pastoral picture-book feel to this one. Someone also well noted it's hinting at Amelie.

Ruslan Ismayilzadeh [43613]

even if this song will be number one in worldwide top it doesn't deserve to win, sorry Belgium, but not this year again

Yawn!
Between you and me, I think Ultratop 50 Charts is the only place Ishtar is gonna be Number ONE!

No way will it rule in Belgrade, it is nothing like Sanomi in 2003- now Urban Trad were amazing- but they lost out to the bellydancing Sertab!

I dont know why, the image i create in my mind when hearing this song is of the Austrian mountains. Maybe because it reminds me alot to Sound of music. At first i did not like this song, now it is in my top10 and might even climb to my top5! makes me happy when i hear it! However i dont like 1 thing! their image! i would imagine them wearing something of the 40'2 or 50's during the 2nd world war! that is what it reminds me of also lol

I think this will be one of the big surprises this year - in a good way!
