Sweden: TV4 pulls out of Junior Eurovision
TV4 has totally diffferent plans for their schedule at the end of November, says Fredrik Arefalk, head of commissioning on TV4, claiming that this is the main reason for abandoning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in which Sweden has been one of the first countries to participate in. On the other hand it is possible that the dramatic drop in this year's viewing figures has also played a part in the broadcaster's decision. About a million viewers tuned in to watch JESC in 2005 but 2007 saw a 50% drop in the number, with only half a million viewers watching.
TV4 took over Junior Eurovision from SVT in 2006 and it was then that Sweden achieved their best result, placing third with Molly Sanden. Parallel to Junior Eurovision, Sweden also participates together with Norway, Finland and Denmark in the Nordic equivalent of the Junior Contest, to be held in Århus, Denmark, on 29th November this year.

Knew this ages ago!
JESC is walking to its end, fortunately!
this old hanger is stil alive&
how many lift-ups:
Singing like OST to MUMMU 196
I have to agree with what others have previously written:
cancel JESC and EDC.
@Muki Meric: I agree with you too!
@Muki Meric:
I totally agree with your opinions about the EDC and the JESC!
I dont like the EDC as it today...i think i should be a contest about traditional dance from each country that paticipate...whit as many dancers on stage is it needs to no limits....
About Jesc....i loved it the two first years...because the winners were great...but lately it has become an eastern competition just like the big ESC...and the winners not worth the victory and the competition its more about how beeing as young as possible and look cute...not about the song and the singing...nad it has become very competetive....sorry but cancell the competition...
Down with juniour ESC, it's nothing but little brats belting out out-of-tune songs trying to be like grown-ups. Reminds me of those dreadful talent competitions you get in the US.
Good news! JESC has always been a BAD idea!!
Oooh, poor little Sweden-hater drusus can´t stand Sweden being one of the favs among fans this year.
Now if YOU would pull out of this site forever THAT would be a great dream come true!
Good news about Sweden probably leaving JESC, a show I haven´t even watched the recent two years. Hope more countries will follow!!
i hope that greece will stay out too
The big loser with this news: Mimmi Sandén.
I totally agree with you Fabio Deluca. However, I liked the first year. It was not that competetive. And I liked the following "jnsc" too, somehow that competition is all about Love and not as much about hate as ESC is =(
I dont need to hate my nextnext naighbour to love my neighbour =).
I never wasted my time in watching the JESC. I don't know why they created it, same about EDC. Both should be cancelled.
By the way I don't expect that the Dutch broadcaster AVRO will pull out of JESC too. JESC is still one of the most popular children's programs every year and unlike Sweden, the Netherlands doesn't participate in another popular children's song contest.
@ drusus 1: SVT has nothing to do with the Swedish entry of JESC anymore since 2006 already. Since then, they organise their own Nordic junior song contest "Nordic Melodi Grand Prix" together with Norwegian NRK and Danish DR and since last year they are joint by Finnish broadcaster YLE. The Swedish national final for the Nordic MGP is called "Lille Melodifestivalen" and that will be the same this year and probably in the next few years also.
Lille Melodifestivalen will go on, so there is no reason to expect that the big Melodifestivalen will stop.
It's time for the EBU to realize that the Junior ESC was SUCH a bad idea. I mean, when Stockselius can't even persuade his own country to take part! ...
Maybe it is not that negative for Sweden but for the whole contest. There are a lot of negative opinions about the whole thing and only few countries are interested in it so...
@ drusus 1
are you mad????? swedish enthusiasm for eurovision is second to none
you call that good news?
Good news : now SVT might wish to leave the ESC too. No more hypes, fan drama voting and overrated entries at the real ESC would be like a dream come true.
Poland will come back to Junior Eurovision in 2008!
This contest will consists only Eastern countries soon. And yes.. every year the cutest one win... so it is not a serious contest.
(Sweden sent almost always the best songs since 2004. All of them were masterpieces. =)
Now these are the news of the day, indeed a rightful decision. Let's hope for more countries to follow.
i hate junior eurovision
scrap it, along with edc! there is only 1 eurovision!
Scrap JESC
Total garbage!
Excellent. Let's hope ERT to be the next one. It's about time to stop all this kids utilisation.
