Big Poll 2008: first semi final results
The Big Poll top ten were as follows:
- Russia
- Armenia
- Greece
- Norway
- Slovenia
- Romania
- Israel
- Ireland
- Poland
- Azerbaijan
No less than eight of the ten countries made it to the final. The only non-qualifiers are Slovenia and Ireland. Furthermore, Laka from Bosnia & Herzegovina, who qualifed for Saturday, was placed 11th in the prediction getting only one point less than the representatives from Azerbaijan. Furthermore, for the first time since 2004, a predicted semi final winner actually made it to the final - previously Selma (2005), Kate Ryan (2006) and Olivia Lewis (2007) were all eliminated before the final.

BULGARIA should simply pull out of the contest just like Italy did as it seems to be watched by blind and deaf people who vote automatically !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is not a song contest anymore but a vote contest.Despite your enthousiasme, guys, as a fan from the early days , I regret to say that this must be biggest non-event in europe.Ireland has visualized what ESC has become : a freakshow with music as a detail.I don't care anymore who will win.
Netherlands deserved to go to the final and I am surprised Bosnia made it to the final. I think Israel was the selection of the jury.
Below is my prediction after the performance of all the countries. I had correctly predicted 8 out of 10.

Worst song ever!
Slovenia was robbed more than any other country .
It was the best entry of the evening and deserved to go into the final .
It's a shame that horrible entries like Azerbaijan and Finland made it and Slovenia and Andorra didn't . Shame !!!

Amazing how acts so good on the promo video didn't translate that to live performances - Armenia (awful performance); Russia (one of the better songs but was Dima on drugs, and did Amy Winehouse do his make up?); Romania (the woman let the guy down, he's got the best voice in EVN this year). And opposite, I didn't think anything of Norway or Israel but on the night they performed well and I have a higher opinion of them now.
I got 8 out of 10, as well as those 5 I predicted Azerb; BiH and Finland. Thought somehow Ireland would get thru, no shame they didn't and also Slovenia. How did Poland get through, really how
IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE WAS A PAPER OR PAPERS READY IN THE HEAT THAT DIMA BILAN COULD RECOGNIZE. THAT'S WHY HE STOOD UP AND ACTED THEATRICALLY UNLIKE ALL THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS.
DEAR FRIENDS, ESC FANS, I WISH YOU TO WATCH THE WHOLE PRESS-CONFERENCE AND ESPECIALLY THE MOMENTS WHEN RUSSIAN ENTRANT DIMA BILAN WAS IN THE CENTRE OF CAMERA ATTENTION AND THEN JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. I WOULD REALLY LIKE YOU TO REACT.
i've got 9/10 out of the actual qualified countries, so i'm really happy with the results on tuesday's show. Let's see today what will happen please Turkey in the final

I really like Armenia's performance, love the song.
Azarbaijan was wow with that screaming.
Russia I liked I knew he would have something interesting like the piano girl.
Greece she had a nice stage show, like the heart.
Israil the man has nice arabic accent and lovely song.
Yesssss Ireland not qualifiying was a big relieve with estonia. Ireland Hopefully you will send something more decent like previously.

Well 7 out of my predicted top 10 wen't through, so I was kinda close. And overall I was happy with the result, it would have been better if the Netherlands had gone through, because Hind was great, but i'm glad there was a good mix of east-west, and ballad-uptempo! Shame Dustin didn't make it though! 
It could be between Poland and Sweden to win 2008, although I find Isis Gee more likeable....

hey my reaction was alot longer and took me ages ....why so short!!!
I am sure the Armenian babe is going to be in top 3 if not the winner. Very sad, MOldova didnt qualify, Geta was great. But Romanians never know how to vote. They bet on Romanian couple...but the Roms dont have good chances.

Someone tell Sirusho to open up her beautiful face!
British commentator said she sang through the fringe! lol
And maybe not a ad idea for a camera man to stick to Sirusho for at least two seconds so we can see her face and dress which from distance looks stunning.
Liked the Netherlands but after Sirusho seems quite alike.
Couldn't stand Bosnia with that laundry.
Idea with skating world champion Plushenko was beautiful and liked Israel and Norway.
I think its going to between armenia, ukraine and sweden on saturday night, thats if swedens get through. Russia will be around there but won't have an impact. There is alot of critism on it. Its a bit OTT everyone is saying. Desperate to win.
Anyway, i just hope one of the above win!

Western Europe:
Finland and Norway deserved the final.
Belgium and Netherland deserved the final too and should nave taken the place of Azerbaijan and Armenia (worst performance so far).
Andorra was crap
Ireland: ok it was crap, BH was crap too, but Ireland was a protest entry so I would have prefered Ireland instead of BH in the final.
San Marino: in the middle, could have made it or not, whatever would have been fine.
East:
Israel and Poland: deserved final
Greece: well performed, but I'm tiresd of those barbies singing copy and paste songs.
Romania (minus 12), Russia (minus 10), Armenia (minus 8) Azerbaijan (minus 7): horrible (diaspora nad neightbours)
Bosnia: absurd (minus 6).
Estonia: (minus5).
Slovenia: like San Marino
Montenegro: poor but not as bad as many others.
Moldova had good entry that didn't deserve to be eiminated.
im so glad that tuesday's best song and entry was in my top 10 predictions and not here, Finland really was overlooked
Good to read all those reactions... so, my turn... I think that Israël and Norway give the best performances ; a perfect act, vocals were just fantastic. In another hand, I think that Belgium, Slovenia and Andorra destroyed themselves. Hope that Armenia will be less "nervous" for saturday. Good job for Poland, that girl can sing... and that's what she did.
Talking about the "Diva - Dima"... well, I'm afraid that song will do well saturday, but maybe not for the good reasons... It's clearly not the best song for this 2008 contest, so let's open your eyes and your ears... and don't say it's a shame if your fav singer don't win... you just have to EXPLOSE your phone saturday !!!!!!!

IF all else fails not really that interested....
Russia's performance was quite disappointing, the stage was too small and the skater couldn't dance properly, and the whole concept... I just don't get it. The stairs, the violinist, a little bit over the top. And have you seen his eyes??? Was he on something?? A girlfriend of mine who watched the pageant with me described the number as "the bunch of gays", and the truth is that everything was a little too girlish. Anyway, the song is great and if Charlotte doesn't ruin her performance, I think Dima could win it all.
