Greece: Paparizou and Rouvas win VMA 08 Best Artist awards

Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas were voted as Artist of the year and Best male artist respectively by the Greek fans in the 2008 Mad Video Music Awards. Ukrainian Eurovision 2008 runner up, Ani Lorak was also present to present one of the awards and ..talk about Sakis.

With 120.000 votes, Helena Paparizou, winner of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest for Greece, was the public's choice for the VMA Artist of the year award. "This category excites and scares me as there are many great artists. I promise I will work hard to become a better person and artist. Thank you very much!" Helena said.

Betty and Mathilde Maggira, the Greek commentators in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest were the ones to present Sakis Rouvas with his award of Best male artist of the year. Both ladies, dressed as brides, called Sakis on stage who accepted the Award saying appropriately "I do!". Sakis Rouvas, who will soon become a father for the first time, stated that he feels the particular awars is very important as it does not reflect the success of a video clip for example, but his overall work during the year: "I feel you support and love me", Sakis told the audience.

Ani Lorak also had something to say about Sakis. The Ukrainian shady Lady was present at the VMA's to Bulgaria's Best Video clip. She performed the chorus of her Eurovision entry and when asked whether she liked Greek men and Sakis Rouvas she said "Oh yes! They are very passionate!" As for Sakis, Ani said that he is a great star and she has no words to describe him.

Helena Paparizou also won the award for Best Pop video clip for her video of the song To fili tis zois. Helena thanked her fans telling them that " If it weren't for you, I would not have accomplished any of the things I have done!" and she went on to thank her team with a special mention to Fokas Evangelinos, known to Eurofans for choreographing Greece's entries in 2004 and 2005and Ukraine 2008 to name a few as well as being the artistic director of Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens.

Michalis Chatzigiannis (Cyprus 1998) won the Best duet award for his collaboration with Despoina Olymbiou.

The show will be broadcast on Alpha TV on Monday 23rd June at 21.00 and on Mad TV on 29th June. You can read more here. (In Greek)

tamta is boring and has no power in her voice and on stage. Martakis is young, fresh, he can sing and he would do fine..BUT this is the one i would love to see her at last on the ESC stage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yObtAVatqSk --------->second in the Greek NF 2002 and http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=yObtAVatqSk ---> a summer hit of the same greek performer of 2005, also very good for Eurovision..
As for Helena, she is unique, a light and power on stage, i think she could even win this contest again even for Malta or Andorra. But she has repeatedely said she would not like to partiipate once more in the ESc contest

there are roumors going on that Sakis is gonna go for Greece to Moscau next year...after sumer it is gonna become more clear if this is only a roumor or not. I think he will be the next winner of the coming ESC. all he needs fot that is a good song(Shake it was not really that great) and his great shining stage presence, which is always there.

Sakis said on Nitro Radio that he is thinking of doing Eurovision again in 2009.

If he enters again, I expect it to be a dance song by Kontopoulos. Something like "Ola Giro Sou Girizoun" or "Kai Se Thelo". For the non-Greek fans, something like "Shady Lady" in style. (Kontopoulos actually put the production touches on that song)

Candyman's Combination:

I think Ani can speak english, on her interview on an english radio station, her english was alright. It wasn't amazing, but she was completely understandable :)

Congrats Helena & Sakis. They are true stars.

Helena won't participate in the Eurovision Song Contest again. She has said that about 100 times. :-)

Sakis should take part again. It would be gr8.

Btw, Ani Lorak couldn't speak English and i wonder why they invited her. She must have been really bored of the show since she didn't understand a thing + didn't perform.

I agree with Jonny and Annika.
Sakis is somewhat overrated imo. I wish him the best of luck with his baby.

Let's hope for Kostas Martakis with a good song for Greece next year :)

I think Saki Rouvas is a tad over-rated.

And I agree with Stockholm Calling that it would be great to see elena back in esc, especially for Sweden (H)

Pleazzz SAKIS come back!!!!!!! ;) ;)

His NEW song ''+ Se thelo'' is WONDERFUL.....

I wouldn't mind if TAMTA or MARTAKIS would represent Greece next year though...

GO SAKIS

I dont like Sakis nor his ESC song for 2004

Elena was great.
But I think Kalomira was even better. She had better song and better work with cameras and dancing on stage. Just the heart and colors of stage were too mouch.

Go Kalomira

(H)elena is a superb artist, she has released lots of terrific songs so far. She is one of the few artists who really deserved their victory in Eurovision! I am not so keen on her new album though, there are only a few songs I really like. And it's not her typical style, I guess it was meant to be a new experiment as an artist... Anyway, I love her and her amazing voice and I hope she can be convinced to come back to Eurovision to be the first female to win it twice!

About Sakis, I've heard rumours that he might come back to ESC next year... dunno if that's true.

By the way, the only participant who turned out to be highly overrated this year was Charlotte.

I wish we sent Sakis to Eurovision again. I have a feeling that he would win this time (same feeling I had with Helena and Dima). But he will have a baby by then and I don't think he will want to go to Eurovision :(

@Annika
Surely you meant: whining sleazebag?

Annika A [33419]

Congratulations to Helena! :)

And please no Sakis in Eurovision. He is overrated, just as this years winning sleazebag.
