Charlotte Perrelli

Overworked and exhausted

Sweden: Charlotte Perrelli collapses

Charlotte Perrelli was taken to emergency yesterday as the exhaustion from work and personal problems caught up with the popular Swedish singer. Charlotte has cancelled her concerts and decided to take a short time off to rest and recuperate.

After Belgrade, Charlotte Perrelli did not take a vacation but went about business as usual. Her family and colleagues have expressed their deep concern for the singer's condition as the exhaustion from all the work involved in this year's Eurovision Song Contest has caught up with her.

Charlotte was booked to appear in Storuman, together with Jan Johansen, winner of Melodifestivalen 1995, but she had to be rushed to hospital instead. Since she entered Melodifestivalen this year, Charlotte Perrelli has been working non stop, driving herself to the edge. She visited 17 countries, something that her manager, Stefan Jordansson, admits was "insane" and should not have happened : "It has been too much. Charlotte and her body could not take it anymore. It was enough. I have been following Charlotte for eleven years and have never seen her so sick. Never ever! We won the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 and not even during that time I saw her so sick. And everybody should know that we all were crawling on our knees back then. She's simply over-worked. She's burned out. It's too much. Now I realise we should say stop long time ago." he told Swedish Expressen.

Charlotte's recent breakup with her husband has no doubt also played a part in the singer's condition. The couple decided a few weeks ago to take some time off as they have been having problems lately. Now Charlotte is at home with her family, resting and waiting for the medical test results. Her management hopes that after that she will be able to be present at the opening of the musical Rhapsody in Rock on July 5 in Forsmark.

A very special thank you to Jarrod for his contribution to the article.

Jonny:

Obviously you Brits don't realise what quality programmes BBC is showing :)

I agree. Charlotte's performance in MF was better. Perhaps she didn't feel very well in Belgrade.

Stockholm Calling

Wow, you have more British programmes than Swedish ones, it seems you Swedes appreciate our TV more than us Brits do!! :D

And about Sweden and Terry Wogan, I expected it in the top 10 before the contest, but her performances at eurovision weren't amazing, her melodifestivalen performance was alot better. I'm still gutted it didn't do well, its one of my favourites for this year, I voted for it!

It was very decent of Terry to mention the Swedes' efforts when selecting songs. I wasn't surprised that Sweden qualified, I too expected "Hero" to end up in top 10. Sweden being the jury's choice came as a shock to me.

Oh I knew it would go to the final. I had figured out long ago that the juries votes would be similar to OGAE's votes ;)

I know marc, I was joking (Greek humour, you know? :P)
And by the way I considered the song a favourite, too...I didn't expect it to win but I expected it in the top 10.
When I saw the semi final performance though I knew it wouldn't do well, judging from the reactions of ppl I was watching it with (who aren't into Eurovision as much as I am).

To be honest I was even surprised that it wnt through to the final. Afterwards I understood why....

Yes Mina, but that was based on the presentation clips before the contest. And Terry is very often wrong with his predictions. And more, I don't think it's the task to a presenter to talk the viewers into voting for someone

Really? Terry said that? Well, it would be more useful if he told the viewers to vote for Sweden, since the Uk gave Charlotte 0 points :P

@ Stockholm calling,

Yep I heard Terry talk about Eurovision in the Paul O'Grady show and he said that probably Sweden would win as they had the best song and that the Swedes also would deserve it as they put most effort into selecting their song....

Jonny,

Oh, the BBC co-operates with the French channel. I can't remember the last time I watched a French programme.
I think we have more British programmes on SVT than Swedish ones :)

@Wilox:

my memory of the jury times tells me something else: it was the time when the best song in english or french would win..and it was the time, when newcomers, eastern and mediterenean countries had no chance of winning no matter how good their entries sometimes were..also we had back then the opposite situation from the tele voting era..well revenge is sweet :-))

and remember that Charlotte won eurovision when the contest still was about who had the best song. she didnt need a drunk skater or a crazy violinist to win. she won on pure talent.

some less smart people here claims that Charlotte is hated.. but thats not true.. jus tlook at all the press before and the votings.. she was the top favourite.. and just look at esctodays discussion board charlotte always gets the highest amount of reactions to her articles.. and that is because she is popular..

i feel so sorry for all the eastern european jealous and small minded persons.

god bless charlotte

Stockholm

Really, I didn't know they would show British programmes! :) Thats really cool :D Yeah we also have commerical channels, but they show really awful TV programmes! :D

Actually, its funny you should talk about foreign programmes on your tv, because i've noticed alot of programmes on the BBC, have been co-produced with France3, the French eurovision channel :D

Jonny,

I hope you'll find it. It's really great. I can also watch BBC World (news).
SVT is our equivalent to BBC. We have SVT1, SVT2 and SVT24. Of course, SVT is also showing a lot of British programmes :)
Then we have the commercial channels.

hehe no i've never heard of it!!! In the UK I think we have BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BB4, 2 BBC childrens channels, BBC Parliament, BBC News 24 and UKTV which is basically run by the BBC. But I can only pick up BBC1 & 2 because I live inbetween a hill and a massive set of trees, so I get basically no signal!! :D

Well i'll look for it, it sounds like quite a good channel :D (is SVT the biggest channel in Sweden, like the BBC?) :)

Jonny,

Don't you have BBC Prime in Britain? It's an entertainment channel. They show British comedy, drama, crime and documentaries. I love this channel :)

Jonny K:

:) I'm pleased to hear that Terry liked the Swedish entry. I couldn't listen to his commentary this year, nor in 2007. The BBC Prime (a great channel which we have access to) doesn't broadcast the ESC anymore. Sob!
Terry must be very disappointed at the results. That's understandable. The UK had a good song and Andy's performance was excellent :)

Stockholm calling

Yes :) Although he said his favourites this year were Sweden and the UK (well the UK obviously!), so he has some musical sense :D!!
I don't think hes going to be at eurovision next year anyway, he sounded really really depressed at the end of the 2008 contest, not because Russia won, but because the UK got such a low placing, and Terry genuinely thought we had a good chance before the contest :S

Jonny,

:) I admit that I had my doubts about Terry's musical taste when I listened to his ESC commentary.

Well I would beg to differ about his musical taste lol!! :D (I heard it again today, but it was played on a different radio show :))

This is Charlotte Perrelli!!!! Botox addict N°1!!!

It is such a shame when anyone is sick, whatever the reason. Yes not everyone likes Charlotte, but that is not a reason to wish her bad health.
Similarly, I think we should all support BURR with his illness. Eurovision should be about happy times.
