Un enfant de France
France: Frida Boccara compilation released
The cover of the CD is the same than the one published in 1980, Un enfant de France, this song being one of the 14 entries in the French national final that year. Frida Boccara qualified for the final round, but only placed 5th out of 6 songs.
Unfortunately, the song she performed the year after at the French selection, Voilà comment je t'aime (4th out of 6 in the second round), cannot be found, even on vinyl. Although the French Wikipedia article about Frida Boccara mentions a release on Philips record company, all big record Euro-collectors in France have never seen a copy of it.
Frida Boccara won the 1969 Eurovision contest for France, together with the Spanish, British and Dutch entries. The lady died on August 1st, 1996 at the age of 55.

as i have previously said, France is for me the best song and the real winner of ESC 1969..i would like to say though, that this good singer was not particularly fotogenic..actually this photo of hers here scares me a bit..
Yes Mina & Stockholm are right, Some countries certainly send the songs they like best, not the ones with the best chance of winning. I think Finland does this, and Estonia and Albania
And I shouldn't worry Vincent, I doubt we'll agree on this!!
Mina:
I agree with Jonny and marc but I guess there's some truth in what you're saying.
I think Sweden is right in sending songs they like and not only for the sake of winning.

Definitely, Stockholm. I'm the first one to say that winning isn't everything and especially for countries who've already won the contest. Let the ones who haven't won stress about it...LOL
I agree Vincent, our little Mina is splendid. Mina I really do hope in August when I will be in Athens to meet up with you, have a coffee together or eat something in Sardelles (Gaza), you know I am not a threat as I am gay, you can meet up with my Greek husband an yap away....
marc,
do you know the date?
i have not one thing to add there(something very rare for me...)
I'm going to write this date down
Mina....
gongratulations!! excellent analisis..i have not one thing to add there(something very rare for me...)
Why did Charlotte fail so miserably..it could be the title of a book..lol
1. She didn't look good on stage...huge forehead, too thin, too fake (not saying that she is fake, but she looked fake).
2. Lack of a good choreography that this song needed desperately.
3. Old-fashioned song that only esc fanatics would like (and did like, judging from the OGAE votes).
4. She was one of the many female favourites with the difference that Kalomoira, Ani and Sirusho were more impressive and livelier on stage.
5. Lifeless, cold performance that couldn't and didn't get through to viewers.
marc,
Charlotte did not win because her song and the way it was presented, it is exactly what i do not like and never liked about almost all ESC entries: simple, catchy pop tunes wich end nowhere and impress noone..fr me the typical ESC entry was: cheery faces singing a light pop song, with simple but unimpressive choreographies..Ark, ESC 2007 was kind of different, but he seemed liked a bored imitator of a young David Bowie on screen..And fr me Charlotte did nt compete agianst Greece or Armenia.they had strong ethnic dance pop songs..charlotte had onlya light, unsubstantial pop song
I don't know Mina, I live in hope....
But Sanna will bring victory next year,...I heard it through the grapevine....
Really??? They're going to send her next year??
Vincent,
I really do think that Johnny is correct my friend. Whenever Sweden sends a non-schlager song to Eurovision, they score a lot less. What doesnt mean the quality is bad, because for me those Swedish entries are my favorites. Why Charlotte did not got a high position, is difficult to say. I think because of the strong competition of same style songs (Greece, Ukraine, Armenia,...) and also a little bit the appearance of Charlotte. She does not look good on screen, and the act was (compared to fe Greece and Ukraine), too oldfashioned, not sharp enough. But Sanna will bring victory next year,...I heard it through the grapevine....
Johny, i think the viewers of the MF chose Charlote, mainly because they like her very much and maybe they now her more than others. Ark and Martin were pop after all and most of all they are what i call "unsubstantial" music: songs with no specific topic or good lyrics, just show and a tune, the songs did not end anywhere. no impressive voices, no high and lows in the singing, very flat, especially the Martin Stenmark song..not bad but not good also..and people in Sweden seem to like this kind of songs but the majority of the viewers of ESC not..but if you enjoy it, that is fine 4me :-)
Vincent
Well I disagree. Martin Stenmark, The Ark & Roger Pentare were hardly pop, Sweden does send very different music to pop quite often!
And at MF this year there was a massive range of music, not just pop. There was pop, rock, electro, rap, ballads, although yes the winner was a pop song
Anyway I think the reason why Sweden sends a pop song is because thats what they like best. They didn't send Charlotte just so they could win, they sent her because they like her song
@Johny..
dreaming is good, but if MF keeps on producing the same unsubstantial pop songs, Sweden will not get very far in the scoreboard..
Stockholm
Oh I see, well hopefully she will win next year then and give us a burst of english!!
But then again I would love Sanna or BWO to win . . . . . arrrrgh I can't decide!! lol

Jonny:
I can't find any English lyrics. Linda said in an interview that if she had won in MF the songwriters would have translated the song. Sorry
Stockholm
Oh I see! Actually, do you know if there are any english lyrics to the song, because I would love to hear an english version? . . . . . i'll have a look!
mina, we have got your pint..you liked believe i every way..it is ok for me :-) i didin't, but still i like Dima Bilan..
and yeah marc, Anoiksi(Greece, ESC 1991) was a great song.i was so mad with the juries which gave it only the 13th place..i think this was the first time when i decided not to watch ESC again..i actually took the break, 2 years after until 1998..and if it wasn't for Dana bac then and a personal thing that was going on the same time with an isreali, i think i would have never ever watch it again..but since 1998 i am a bigger fan of it than before
Cst,
I must agree with Vincent and Mina here. 2001 was far better than My number one. More, I can not stand that song. But he, very often the winner is not really the winner for me. I mean, Anixi received hardly any points and that's such a good song.
'''to the lyrics nobody pays any attention, especially in the televoting era'''
Heyyyyyy, I pay attention! First thing I liked about Believing was the lyrics and then the music.
I was so sick of love songs in Eurovision, and I am glad that at least in the last years the winning songs weren't about someone missing their sweetheart...LOL
@cst:
lyrics play a very minor role in this contest..it is all about the show, then the music and the appearance of the artist on stage...to the lyrics nobody pays any attention, especially in the televoting era..and do you think anybody understood what Helena was saying?? For me Greece 2001 was the best entry..but i must say i think Number1 was bombastic as a whole
cst,
I think καθησα και σκεφτηκα is much better than 'you're my lover undercover'
And I liked the music much more, too.
Frida was just an amazing entry & definitely is one of the best ESC songs ever
@ Mina
No dear, in 2001 we had NOT the best song and thus we didn't deserve to win. My Number One is far better than 2001 entry. What do u want me to remember? the lyrics?
Κάθησα και σκÎφτηκα και είδα???
ÎŒτι τι?
We've said it Milan. And most of us said she should have won in 1969
I had also written that Voilà comment je t'aime is among the songs that take part in the Second Chance Retro 1981 that OGAE fan clubs organise.
