Gold record in Sweden

Belgium: Kate Ryan celebrates golden birthday

Kate Ryan turned 28 yesterday. A very special present arrived from Sweden: a gold record for her latest single Ella elle l'a, which have sold over 10,000 copies. A party celebrating this fact has been held in Stockholm, the city where Kate Ryan's hit was recorded.

The single Ella elle l'a has been on top 10 of the Swedish charts for 10 weeks. Kate's Swedish producers Niklas Bergwall and Niclas Kings are very happy with this and see it as a proof of a big success and Kate's rising popularity.

The song has become extremely popular in Sweden. It is continuously played on TV, radio, stores and a couple of weeks ago, Ella elle l'a was already voted 'sommarplåga' of the year by the readers of Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. The song is also topping the Dutch charts, so producers expect to go gold there as well.

In the upcoming weeks, Kate Ryan will perform in several Swedish clubs. On Thursday 31st July, an exclusive concert at Café Opera in Stockholm is scheduled. That evening, also the annual Schlagerpride takes place in the Swedish capital during the Europride. If you would like to attend the Kate Ryan concert in Stockholm, you can win tickets on our partner website Gylleneskor.se. On 13th August, Kate Ryan will also take the stage of the popular Rix FM Festival for the second time this summer, in Göteborg.

I like very much Kate Ryan, but it is simply sad that her larger success except perhaps “Je t'adore” are only remix of the others...

I'm glad she recovered well from the ESC.

Yavoda... I'm sorry to say that she's not even GOLD in Spain yet! As a matter of fact she's not very high on the selling lists at the moment and she's only been on the list for 2 weeks.

Kate sings well but she has an unnerving very unrelaxed manner on stage which makes her come across as rather arrogant or non chalant. I love all her songs but wish that she wasn't so plasticky with wiggling her boobs etc - she's a pretty lady without having to go tarty.

Btw, she got twice GOLD in Spain too! Olé!

I'm surprised how many people here write so many bad things about Kate Ryan, D'Nash and Charlotte Perrelli

I haven't seen so many bad comments about Kate Ryan, I mean it's natural that not everyone likes her but, really, I didn't see anything THAT bad..most ppl said she should have qualified. And if someone says I don't like Kate or I didn't like her performance or I don't think she's that famous, that's not insulting to her in any way.

Vladimir
I agree, its disgusting some of the comments people write here :( Although on the subject of the camera mans foot, I found that shot highly entertaining, it certainly made Kates performance more memorable! :) :D But anyway with or without the foot, she should have qualified, even if her performance was a little off, she was great :L

Vladimir P:
Well said. Thanks.
Kate Ryan was my 3rd favourite too after Lordi and Anna Vissi :)

Have a nice weekend everyone!
I'm off now - see you on Sunday night.

I'm surprised how many people here write so many bad things about Kate Ryan, D'Nash and Charlotte Perrelli. The fact is that "Je t'adore", "I love you mi vida" and "Hero" were favourites of many fans and that they flopped, but it's still strange that many people are actually HAPPY because they didn't do well on ESC. I understand if someone doesn't like a singer, but it's shocking what vocabulary some people use to express their opinion. When you read some people's comments here about Charlotte Perrelli, you could get the impression that she's the most wanted world criminal and not a professional singer.
As for Kate Ryan, I loved "Je t'adore" (my 3rd fav - after
"Alvedansen" and "Tornero" ;). She looked great on stage (she was sooo sexy), but it was obvious she didn't feel comfortable and secure. The camera guy's foot also didn't help. Perhaps it wasn't the best performance of the night, but I think she would have made it, if it hadn't been that foot shot.

Vincent:
I understand that "Desenchantée" was a huge hit in Germany. Actually it charted in Sweden but I think Kate became more popular after her appearance in ESC. And "Je t'adore" is written by Swedes too.

think a few countries gave high points to ate Ryan in 2006, because i think she was like a mving ice-cube on stage and she performed noot with her heart and soul

Yeah,. she looked like an ice-cube lol but her song was one of the best in ESC06 and deserved to qualify instead of Lithuania...
However, it wasn't a huge hit in Europe after ESC6 as many claim. Lordi's winning entry was huge and entered the top 10 of European Top 100 Singles, something that none of the Eurovivion winners have achieved (i'm not sure about Sertab though). And youre right, Kate's hits are only cover songs with an exception of the Eurovision entry which wasn't as huge as this single.

who've made a bigger hits since ESC-2006? I mean entries of 2006? Lordi didn't, they couldn't make another hit.

Lordi. Oh and Kate Ryan as i wrote before, takes advantage of old songs in order to make her name known in Europe. I personally don't count that since these hits aren't original.

@candyman,
well this one song "desechante" (or whatever) was popular, but some time before Eurovision, maybe one or two years before. I think a few countries gave high points to ate Ryan in 2006, because i think she was like a mving ice-cube on stage and she performed noot with her heart and soul. that is what the greek performers do, and that is also one reason that makes them get so many points

Yes, Candyman, I just said that everyone charted in Sweden, not for how long.

yeah i just added extra info,

In Germany she was known long before the ESC with her first break through single "desechante", again a cover of an older song.this song was everywhere in the german radio back then
Germany gave null to Kate Ryan in 2006. I expected Germans to vote for Kate because i knew she used to be famous, plus her singles have charted in German chart..

I don't say she is popular in ALL parts of Europe but who've made a bigger hits since ESC-2006? I mean entries of 2006? Lordi didn't, they couldn't make another hit.

@Vincent Barbarino
I didn't speak about ESC-songs, I meant further career nowadays. Who says Kate does ONLY covers? Covers are very small part of her songs on her last albums (I didn't listen first album), most of stuff are her original songs.

At least 8 of the ESC songs (except Hero) charted in Sweden. Maria and Sébastien are still in the Swedish charts.

I'd say that Kate Ryan became popular after Eurovision. Everyone I know liked "Je t'adore".

Btw, Dima also charted in Sweden, almost everyone charted in Sweden this year.

yeah he did but it was expected to chart since he was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 and he even visited Sweden as the ESC winner. However, he charted for 1 week and peaked at #28.

Mina,
thanx for the info...i think a lot of people are going to attend this concert...here, in Germany, there are many people from all ages who go crazy for some pseudo-dark hard rock

darling, i only asked how many pts did she get from Sweden. Nothing more nothing less. The fact that she charted in Sweden with "Je t'adore" didn't make her famous. Kalomira and Ani Lorak charted in Sweden as well this year. so what?

Mina Carnation [51405]
Wed 23 Jul 2008 23:42:53

Well, we should ask someone from Sweden about that..lol

Candyman,
you had said And how many pts did she get from Sweden in 2006? It seems that her popularity has nothing to do with Eurovision and I just commented that she got 5 pts but they liked the song, it charted in Sweden so she did become popular after Eurovision.
