Lena Philipsson to participate?

Melodifestivalen 2009 speculations have begun

It's over sixth months until Melodifestivalen 2009 begins. But already now the speculations have began in Sweden about who is going to participate in the popular competition to representing Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. Among the names we find Lena Philipsson, Måns Zelmerlöw and Timbuktu.

Melodifestivalen 2008 had many famous names like Carola, Sanna Nielsen and winner Charlotte Perrelli. The work for Melodifestivalen 2009 has already begun.

According to Swedish tabloid, Expressen,  former winner Lena Philipsson has been approached to compete again. Last year the participation coincided with the show Lena + Orup in Gothenburg.  Lena has been in Melodifestivalen four times, Kärleken är evig 1986, Dansa i neon 1987, Om igen 1988 and Det gör ont/It hurts 2004. She also been hostess  of the tv-show 2000, 2003 and 2006.

Other names in talks are Måns Zelmerlöw, Timbuktu, Nordman, Björn Skifs, Peter Jöback and Veronica Maggio.

- There are  interesting names on the list. I have contacted record companies and asked them to think who they want to have in Melodifestivalen. But I have not spoken to any specific artists, I will wait for the 28 songs to  choosen "says Christer Björkman.

I agree with most fans. Melodifestivalen is great almost as ESC. I think ESC in Stockholm in recent years would be.... BEST ever. I just hope Sweden will send someone who stand chance wining. I think Sanna can be one of them... BWO as well, we just have to wait and see, but I am looking foreword to new Melodifestivalen.

"Well you never know, finding gold in the streets is still possible - no, trust me, in Cornwall it is impossible! The only people who own gold don't take it outside with them... :P

What I was considering was catching a flight to Stockholm on the Saturday morning (early), arriving then checking in and doing a bit of shopping (for the official MF CDs!) and then going to the event in the evening (whichever one it is), partying all night long...maybe getting a bit of sleep and then flying back on the Sunday! All without missing any college! :)

btw, you're so lucky be going back on Friday + my school is now full of irritating new Germans who arrived today to join the equally irritating Germans in my year (we are an international school, so :P) and what's worse is there are no Swedish students :(

Awesome - it wouldn't have MF without Carola!!!

p.s. this is the last message I'm posting on this article because it's almost history!

I also think that the MF final should be hosted in Globen :) The dress rehearsal is almost like a final, great atmosphere. There are in fact two dress rehearsals, Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Apart from last year I've always been to the one Friday night. In 2006 Carola did sing when I was there but saved her voice in the Saturday rehearsal.

Well you never know, finding gold in the streets is still possible! :) Yeah I would love to go to the final, I don't know how that would work out though with college etc. :S But it would be amazing to go! :D
And I agree that I can't imagine it anywhere else but Globen, its like one of the first things I associate with MF! ;)
And i'm sorry to hear you're back at school so early, I don't go back till Friday!!! :P :)

Copenhagen is wonderful :) And you're right - I have never been to Sweden (very close though :P) but it is the first place I will go when I get the chance! (L)

It's hard to imagine the Melodifestivalen final anywhere else apart from Globen - it's one of the iconic symbols of the contest - but I also heard a rumour (in fact I think I read it in one of your comments) that if Charlotte had won ESC, they would host the 2009 contest in Malmö because they've built a new arena there!

It would be a dream to go to the final but you're lucky to have been to the dress rehearsals - five times!!! I have always wondered though, what is the atmosphere like during the rehearsal? And was it disappointing that Carola didn't participate in 2006 because she was trying to save her voice? But anyway, I'm not picky - I would love just one ticket to any of the events - particularly if another is going to be held in he same aircraft hanger in Kiruna!!!!! In fact, I think that would be my second choice :) and you never know, I could meet you - it's always nice to put a face to the esc-profile!

Copenhagen is a nice city. I take it you haven't been to Sweden yet.
lol. You're right about the MF tickets. I've never been to the final but to the dress rehearsal 5 times and it's just as hard to get tickets for that show. You have to phone the minute they start selling the tickets. Rumour has it that the final will be in Malmö next year.
It's a bit difficult to tell the difference between written Norwegian and Danish but the Norwegian words are more similar to Swedish. People in the south of Sweden pronounce their "rs" in the back of their throat.

OMG, I have been at school all day - I cannot stand it, waaaay to much hard work!

Stockholm
I went to Denmark in February - I absolutely loved it! I was lucky enough to go to Copenhagen and I saw the view from the top of Rundetårn - and of course Malmö, I was so happy that I saw a bit of Sweden :D

I can tell the difference between written Swedish and Norwegian/Danish (I couldn't tell the difference between Norwegian or Danish) and also spoken (I think :P). In Denmark, they tend to say their "r"s in the back of their throat whereas in Sweden it is rolled at the front (although I have heard Sanna say it the Danish way but then again she is from the south). Also, I find that Swedish is more "bouncy" and it's not as monotonous as Danish - and then of course there is the "sj" sound in Swedish which you can't hear anywhere else!!!

Jonny L
You will love Denmark, it is awesome :D (L) but I was actually going to ask you if you wanted to try and go to the final of Melodifestivalen with me next year! I know that we don't know each other that well and that it is harder to get MF tickets than it is finding gold lying in the street but it's worth a try!!!

lol. This means that you can't tell the difference between the Scandinavian languages.
Charlotte was in the panel and at least she liked The UK entry better than the one from The Ukraine :) Thomas from Finland said that he wouldn't fly that Airline :D

Aaaah I didn't know they were all speaking different languages! :) Charlotte Perrelli was on the panel that year aswell wasn't she, because I watched part of the 2007 previews the other day to see how they rated the UK entry, and they only gave them 5 points lol!! :) But they gave us more points this year!

The guy from Finland spoke Swedish because that's his mother tongue. They have two official languages in Finland, Finnish and Swedish. Only once did they sing in Swedish in ESC, in 1990 and they ended up last :(
Eirikur Hauksson from Iceland spoke Norwegian. He's been living in Norway for ages and has even competed for Norway once in 1991 with the group Just4Fun.
The other panelists spoke Danish, Norwegian and Swedish :)

Aaah I see, I didn't know Norweigian and Swedish were so similar ;) By the way, in the esc preview shows last year (as in 2007), what language were they speaking? Because it was a Scandinavian show. :)

I see. "Anderson" is also the Swedish way of spelling it, "-sen" is Danish and Norwegian.
Norwegian and Swedish are very similar.

Well our Danish relatives dont actually live in Denmark anymore, they live in Hastings, England! :) And I found out something about their surname. Their surname is "Anderson" but thats not their original one, their original surname is "Andersen" but they changed it when they came over here to make it sound more British!
And i'm not sure whether I can tell the difference between the 3 languages. Because I very rarely hear any of them being spoken. Would I be right in saying Norweigen is more different that Swedish & Danish? :)

Nice :) If you cross the Öresund bridge you'll end up in Malmö. Are you going to visit your relatives in Denmark?
Can I ask you a question - do you hear the difference between Swedish, Danish and Norwegian?

Yes, I see what you mean. I haven't thought of it before :)
Malmö hosted the 1983 MF. (I can't believe that Malmö is considered "greener" than Stockholm :) )

Aaaah I see now! :) I like the MF stage of 1983, its soooo 80's! :) And the backdrop looks a bit like the Jewish star cut off halfway if you see what I mean! :)

Woaoa!! :) She does look a fair bit like Carola, although the two do have completely different faces. On the subject of Carola, there was a woman in the "culture" section of the paper that looked exactly like her lol!! Scary :D

As I told Jonny before Sanna also sang "Rör vid min själ" (You raise me up) in that open air concert but SVT didn't show it. Here is a clip:

Something struck me. Do you remember that Sandra O was disappointed that Carola had not recognized her in Athens? After seeing that photo that Euro Sheep posted below I understand why Carola didn't recognize her :)

OK, I finished listening to the whole show - it was wonderful! I loved all the songs (including "Du Är Min Man" - classic dansband :P) so I will be listening every week! :)

Thanks Stockholm :) It's interesting you mentioned BWO, they were at number 15 (unless I'm mistaken) and I heard a bit of last weeks chart and Rongedal were at number 10!!! I hope Sanna will be the number one for the whole year (L)
