Sweden: Melodifestivalen 2009 CD release

The annual smash hit multi-platinum CD, the Melodifestivalen official compilation CD is now available to pre-order. The CD will be released on Sunday 8th March, the day after the Andra Chansen (second chance round) and the 11 Melodifestivalen finalists are known.

The Melodifestivalen CD will be released six days before the competition final on March 15th, when Sweden will decide which of the 32 entries will represent the country at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. The songs are guarded carefully to ensure that the competition remains fair at all times.

In Sweden, the songs are only available to radio for a brief period before each semi final and are embargoed after the stated play window. Once all finalists are known, the embargo is lifted. This is to ensure that songs earlier in the competition to not gain unfair advantage by being in the public domain for up to three weeks before the songs in the fourth semi final.

The Melodifestivalen CD is one of the most popular CDs released in Sweden every year, achieving platinum status regularly. The record sales are testament to the popularity of the competition, which remains one of the most successful television shows in the country.

The CD is available to pre-order from CDON.com now at a discounted price of 21.95 EUROS. Click here to place your order now.

@Mister men: The headline is changed. In the first one they wrote " released" not release.

Melodifestivalen is much bigger than ESC in Sweden. Every semifinal of MF was watched by much more viewers than final of ESC (I don't even speak about semifinal of ESC).

have a look at MF at svt.se, it states about the 11th contender, who is international jury's choice - the procedure is a bit confusing but is explained in detail.

Hope it helps !!

toby, it says right at the start "The annual smash hit multi-platinum CD, the Melodifestivalen official compilation CD is now available to pre-order. The CD will be released on Sunday 8th March" if you cant understand the article, then more fool you. the article says 3 times that it is available on pre-release and the site needs to make money somehow. i dont think many people donate anything, and it's pretty clear that there is not enough to pay for hosting, which is why we cant get to the site on saturday night.

have you donated anything other than cheapshots lately?

well done esctoday and keep up the good work.

It sucks that Sweden is the last country to release their representant in Moscow

@Toby: I agree with you. I was almost shocked when I first saw the article because I know the cd will be released in March. It's also well-known that SVT work hard to keep the songs secret to after the shows.

Woo - Stockholm calling showed me the cover back in December :D but it looks so great! I have already pre-ordered my copy! And I have no doubt that the 2009 CD will be the best album of the year!
