Eurovision Day 3: Slovakia and Denmark

Only two countries left to do their technical rehearsal today. As this first round is mostly there to establish the camera angles and the performers' positions on stage, loads of the vocals today have left a lot to be desired for according to most observers here, but not too much notice should be given on these first rehearsals when it comes to singing. Before the assembled media here in Moscow move on to the opening of the Moscow Euroclub, Eurodom later tonight, Slovakia and Denmark are still rehearsing.

Song 8: Slovakia

One country returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a long absence is Slovakia. The country arranged a long and varying national finals round that was eventually won by TV and musical stars Kamil Mikulcik and Nela Pociskova, who is only 18 years old. This do has the stage shining in mostly red and orange and the performance is based around the two artists and a grand piano. The song is a classy big ballad in the Slovakian language, Let’ tmou and is totally relying on the great voices of the singers, that walk around the edge of this huge stage to meet again in the middle. There is a cellist and a grand piano on stage with them and the backdrop is showing candles.

Song 9: Denmark

The last country on the big stage tonight is Denmark. Brinck is singing a song called Believe again, which is co-written by Ronan Keating of Ireland. Niels Brinck is the lead singer of the band with a drummer, guitarist, drummer and base guitarist. The stage has an industrial feel with metallic blue the dominant colour, with some green details lightening the backdrop up. Niels is also seen in a white shirt and black waistcoat with a red bandana around his neck and faded jeans. This is very much a band performance more than a solo thing now, and the two guitarists join Niels at the end in the middle of the stage.

That also concludes today’s rehearsals here in Moscow! More tomorrow from esctoday.com.

NO!!!! I can't believe what a BORING STAGE it is for DENMARK!! What the hell were they thinkning with this horrible dull colour scheme???? This song really is supposed to wake people up, and I was expecting something extraodinary with the huge stage and great lightshow for the chorus. Instead the have this...
I feel so sorry for Denmark, because it could have been much more better...

Well done Slovakia, the song might sound a little complicated but it's performed professionally and with emotions. Hope you'll recieve some points from us.
Denmark also good but not very special if you ask me.

Now I am really curious about the next rehearsal of Quartissimo and Martina. I am sure they'll be fantastissimo.

I love the Danish song...contemporary and fresh and could do well in the UK charts with the right promotion! Slovakia, I'm afraid, I find painful to listen to...dreary, unimagiantive and out of date!! Come on people! It's 2009!

For me Slovakia is better then Norway, and I think that Spain,Croatia,Israel,Azerbaija n and Island are also better then Norway.

I hope European audience will love and award those few songs that really sound "modern" from the contest and not only ethno-pop, schlager and so on. Danish song, as well as the Swiss one, is one of those few songs, and they both might top all over the charts if adequately promoted. I think that all the countries should make en effort to select contemporary-sounded songs, this would elevate the level of the contest and also its success. We can't forget that it's a musical show, and the aim of all the music contests is to "send out" new hits and new successful singers, and you all realise that songs from Eurovision don't easily reach an international huge success. That's why I think that "expert panels" should count also in the semifinals, because we risk to see eliminated good songs representing countries not "protected" by political swap of votes.
I hope good quality will be awarded rather than gimmicks, handosme guys with old-fashioned songs and skaters or fires on the stage.

@ Marko

Yeah!!!!...I knew it!. Off to a good start Brinck....i hope it'll qualify...he, and the song, deserves it. IMO our best entry since 2001.
This COULD be THE big surprice...
I'll vote for Bosnia....Love it!.

I can't understand why so many people don't like Slovakia's song. I think it's the best ballad this year. I wish them many luck and a great comeback!

About Denmark..hmm..it's to Boyzoneish ..good luck to them but I don't see it placeing very well!

I don't rate the Slovakian song very much, it's a bit dreary and I can't see it making it to the final.

The Danish song isn't one of my favourites, but he can sing, the song is quite strong and I'm fairly sure it will be in the final.

Fantastic Brinck!!! Thank you!!! I "Believe Again"...!!!! We all know that it´s still very early days....and many things can and will change in the different performances.... So I can only imagine how Brinck is going to shine even more on that stage next week!! I can´t wait!!
By the way: Congratulations to Norway on winning ESC 2009;-)))))

Slovakia - it was good until the guy started singing

Denmark - Not as good live is it!! As Michael said it could easily be a Boyzone B-side. Get Ronan to co-write the song and get some Stars in Their Eyes wannabee to sing it. Crass and poor.

i didnt like these songs very much but i wish the best for them :)

Michael UK [23926]

Slovakia: Great voices, probably the best of all the participants, the song is not bad but they need to be more confident on the stage if they want to be in finals.

Denmark: He knows how to get the attention, besides is a catchy and good song and there's no doubt that he will be in finals.
My ranking of these 9 is:
1-Norway
2-Croatia
3-Denmark
4-Cyprus
5-Slovakia
6-Poland
7-Ireland
8-Serbia
9-Latvia
