Eurovision goes bossa nova

Jan Gotz'z blog, which specialises in Eurovision cover versions, announces the release of Bossavision, a collection of Eurocovers in Bossanova-lite style by Brasilian singers. It's a Greek project (hence the large number of Greek entries) coordinated by Easy Coutiel & Nektarios Tyrakis, the later being the lyricist if Shake It (Greece 2004) and Love Me Tonight (Belarus 2005).

"The laid back bossa collection is a bit monotonous at times, but it's the perfect soundtrack for a romantic night on the beach or dinner party with the neighbours” Jan Götz writes, on his personal blog. The CD is released in Greece on Mercury/Universal and is available locally and internationally.

Tracklist :
1. Barbara Mendes - My number one (Greece 2005)
2. Carol (Assad) & Zeca Rodrigues - Every way that I can (Turkey 2003)
3. Marcela Mangabeira - Ding A Dong (Netherlands 1975)
4. Saloa Farah - Die for you (Greece 2001)
5. Eliza Lacerda - Waterloo (Sweden 1974)
6. Barbara Mendes - Secret combination (Greece 2008)
7. Rachelle Spring - Diva (Israel 1998)
8. Marcela Mangabeira - Shake it (Greece 2004)
9. Flavio Mendes - Save your kisses for me (U.K. 1976)
10. Marion - Tell me (I Anixi, Greece 1991)
11. Daniela Procopio - Nel blu dipinto di blu (Volare) (Italy 1958)
12. Rachelle Spring - Solfege lesson (Mathema Solfege, Greece 1977)
13. Marion - L' oiseau et l'enfant (France 1977)
14. Guilherme Ge - Tornero (Romania 2006)
15. Marion - Apres toi (Luxembourg 1972)
16. Carol (Assad) & Zeca Rodrigues - Where are you now (U.K. 1998)

A 9-minute compilation of all tracks can be found on youtube

Tornero sounds great in Bosanova. and the singer voice is great.
Waterloo is also cute to sing in Bosanova.
Every way that i can and Diva dont sound good in Bosanova.
i heard once hard rock version of Diva and this was amazing.

Same record company has recently published "Bossa Mia", a collection of 14 songs of Abba, covered the "bossa nova" style. Gon on to http://www.planetworks-shop.gr/ then search for "bossa" or "abba" and you'll get it. Sample for all songs. But nothing really convincing, to my opinion.

@Sunny Montenegro
It's «bossa nova» not «bossa nueva»

hm.. i am not happy with result.... though i am very surprised that Waterloo seems to be very suitable for Bossa. Never would have guessed. For me only Ding-A-Dong and maybe Every Way That I Can do the trick of really transporting a bossa feel, a bossa vibe. Many are awful such as Diva and Shake it. I think it's an overall bad choice of songs, many of the them not suitable for transforming. I'd rather have for instance "Si la vie est cadeau'" transformed from a very slow and heavy ballad into a light floating bossa song. Or maybe What's another year. ... but who's asking me ??? No one, I know ;-)

@ Guilherme
Have a look at the time of publishing of the news and you'll know who stole who. As for the original blog from where the news comes, it's Jan Götz's and we mention it several times. Enjoy Guilherme.

What a nice and polite idea to reveal new musical horizons to every open-minded Eurovisionary. And this dignified performance would make Mr. Jobim very satisfied witnessing such fruitful symbiosis of his artistic legacy and Eurovison treasures. Interestingly enough, this convincing musical effort might raise question whether arrangement or composition is the decisive feature of a song. (Gives me an opportunity to reconcile with Greece after this year's somewhat uninspired entry.)
