Your opinion

  • You can vote for your favourite in our poll here.

LIVE

The show has started.

The programme opens with a Blues Brothers/Men in Black style performance before host Martin Rausch enters the stage to the Queen classic We will rock you.

2001 and 2006 Maltese entrant Fabrizio Faniello now performs his new single.

1. Kristina - Horehronie

Current esctoday.com poll result: 1st (68.5%)

Due to a change in the line-up, Kristina is the first to perform tonight.

The song has already becomea classic fan favourite. Kristina delivers a strong performance of this catchy and unique song. The performance suits the song very well although the outfits, which seem to be supposed to reflect a "fairytale" atmosphere are a tad scary.

2. Free Voices - Z osnov

Current esctoday.com poll result: =7th (1.5%)

Although the band is called Free Voices, the voices are not quite impressive. Nevertheless, the stage performance is very passionate which helps to put some enthusiasm into the rather repetitive song. Probably not a favourite to win tonight, especially as they had to take over the unlucky second spot in the draw from Kristina.

3. Robo Opatovský - Niečo máš

Current esctoday.com poll result: 12th (0.5%)

Robo Opatovyský brings his own DJ on stage to support the disco/club atmosphere of his song. The melody is catchy and the relaxed perormance is perfect for the song but the overall style might not be outstanding enough to do well tonight.

Kristina is currently the clear favourite in the SMS voting by a large margin ahead of Mista. A recap is shown of the three songs alredy performed.

4. Martina Schindlerová - Môžeš ísť

Current esctoday.com poll result: =7th (1.5%)

The first classy ballad tonight. A very strong and emotional vocal performance and a classy stage performance really suit this entry very well. Still, it might lack some dramatic highlight to make people vote for it.

5. Aya - Do neba volám

Current esctoday.com poll result: =7th (1.5%)

Classic song with classic performance - this one might really do well among fans of the genre.

6. Marián BangoTy tu ticho spíš

Current esctoday.com poll result: 11th (1.0%)

Marián is a charming performer and he seems to enjoy his time on stage. The song is a sweet ballad, which is supported by some classical dancing on stage. A rather classical approach that mightdo better in the Eurovision Song Contest than expected for the sake of being different.

7. Tomáš Bezdeda - Na strechách domov

Current esctoday.com poll result: =2nd (7.5%)

Tomáš Bezdeda performs a simple but nice and catchy radio pop/rock song. The vocals are strong and the performance is passionate especially towards the end. The singer has already finished second in last year's national final and he is likely to do well again tonight.

8. Mista - Emotions

Current esctoday.com poll result: =2nd (7.5%)

This is probably the most complex composition tonight. It features slower parts and dramatic parts and instrumental parts. A very strong vocal performance and the eye-catching stage performance should secure this entry a good placing tonight.

9. Miro Jaroš - Bez siedmeho neba

Current esctoday.com poll result: =7th (1.5%)

The most interesting part of this entry is that it is translated to sign language. The song is catchy while you listen to it but a tad forgettable. Still a strong and emotional performance.

10.  Soňa - Skús ma viesť

Current esctoday.com poll result: =5th (2.5%)

This song creates a rather special atmosphere on stage as it would make up the perfect background music for a dark, smokey bar. Again, the vocals are strong and the performance suits the song. Consdering all the different styles in the line-up, this one might still be overseen.

11. Mayo - Tón

Current esctoday.com poll result: =5th (2.5%)

This one could be a called a rock song but it is a very unusual one as its arrangement faces on the piano and on the violin. A very catchy entry that could be seen as a dark horse tonight.

12. Pavol Remenár, Klára & Liquid Error - Figaro

Current esctoday.com poll result: 4th (4.0%)

Originally supposed to perform first, they are last on stage now. The performance features many gimmicks leaving it unsure how much of a comedy performance this is supposed to be. Still a catchy song and two very strong lead vocalists.

Our poll is closed for voting now. You can find the updated results above.

The results are coming in.

Kristina has won the national final and will represent Slovakia in Oslo.

@ dimitris calling

Well it's your guess that it should win such a survey and again your taste can't speak for the rest of the world.

Why are you so afraid to admit that "Wild Dances" had bigger impact? I never talked about what was musically best or anything like that... that's a totally different thing.

The fact that you like "wild dances" says something for you..The fact that i like "lane moje" says something for me too! :)

Your argument about the remix is really weak! But let me make a wild guess! If there was a survey "which one is better music" i believe "lane moje" would win by a landslide :)
And yes! It's a matter of personal taste. But most things in life are actually a matter of personal taste!Aren't they??I love people expressing their personal taste and not those who hide behind weak facts and figures in order to support their preferences...
And believe me!Peopledoremember "lane moje"!!!Good music always lives on...The problem is with the weak instant hits that last a month or two and then they disappear..
Good night! :)

@ dimitris calling

Actually a remix of "Lane Moje" could be played...

yeah what characteristics exactly? Because again personal taste can't measure impact...

Well most people will remember the song that had a LIFE after the contest... and without radio airplay, club plays etc. there's not too much life...

oh well

have a nice evening anyways! :)

well you just love to have the last word on this, don't you?I understood your point of view from the very beginning but you didn't undestand mine and i can't help this...I said that we should agree that we disagree earlier...So no need for this lenghty last post...

- check the club plays
As if "lane moje" would be played more in clubs...

You seem to measure impact on facts and figures,i measure impact based on harder to measure characteristics...That's all...I don't want to change your point of view but for the last time respect mine...

Yes!We agree that we disagree...So stop posting "facts" about Ruslana's impact that say nothing to me...And since we can't make a survey on whom people remember the most from esc 2004 ,let's stop it...

Timoteij & AGAMA in Town [60047]
Sun 28 Feb 2010 00:09:05

@ dimitris calling

Well Ruslana for sure is not some mental ill person with a joke song lol

I didn't want you to change your opinion about the songs or convince you that anything was better than the other.. that's totally subjective.

Well I guess we should just drop this. I believe 100% that you can't measure impact with personal taste.

- check the chart facts
- check the radio plays
- check the club plays
- check the singles/albums sold

and then go and make a survey and send it to random people in most countries and ask them which of these songs they REMEMBER the most... not the one they LIKE the most...

and there you will see who made most impact

to say "some people think it's classic" doesn't say anything really...

Remember we don't have to LIKE everything that is popular, but if something ended more successful than the other obviously it made more impact... it's simple logic.

There's no impact if people in general barely remembers a song..

if you think personal taste measures actual impact then go ahead I won't stop you...

I'd say we should just drop this finally and let's agree to disagree about what impacts actual means

I understood from the vey beginning what you were saying but i said sooo many times that i don't measure impact based on random chart success...I posted the same thing 3 times...What is so hard for you to understand?A simple example:3 years ago we had, here in Greece a single being number one for many weeks. It was sang by a voiceless person with mental problems that people thought was funny and they were buying his single...Was it a chart success?Yes!Did it have any real impact? No!

I have already said that "wild dances" was more successful in charts for a month or two in some countries...Will this change my mind on the song? No!

@ dimitris calling

You didn't get my point it seems. Offcourse I respect your point of view and opinion, I just meant that we can't use our personal taste to speak about if a song is classic for other people or to describe the impact it made in general.

A song can obviously make an impact on a personal level, but that's not the "impact" I am talking about.

Again, it's not about what is best or worse... and I didn't even speak about that.

If you want to actual check the "impact" so to speak you have to check charts, radio plays, club playing etc. and I can bet you that "Wild Dances" did the most impact here of the two... I don't see the need to argue this?

It's not about that you have to agree that it's the better one... that's obviously personal opinion.

But to make things clear just AGAIN I didn't speak about personal opinion, I just spoke about the impact the songs made after Eurovision and again the only way to measure this is to measure the successes of the songs and not personal taste.

Timoteij
I thought you were a person i could have a decent conversation with...You keep puting words in my mouth...I never said people should agree with me on that! But please allow me to have my point of view! Why is it so important for you to force me to agree with you on that???I won't...Will it really upset your world so much the fact that i don't share your opinion about Ruslana's impact???Sorry if it does but i'll stick to what i believe... :) As i said before...random chart success says nothing to me!

I did neither watched the shows nor listened to the songs' snippets, so I can't compare the winner with the other contestants, but after the first listenings it sounds so so so monotonous, the same notes repeated 5 or 6 times... Her voice is so uncertain, choroegraphy unoriginal... Maybe after some more listenings it will become the 2010 "Randajaad" miracle, but at the moment my opinion is: very weak. What a pity, I loved the Slowakian entries in 90's, and I 'm still hoping they will find that magic, but not in this song, at least tonight.

dimitris calling [57630]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:42:36

As it seems i replied to your last comment beforehand...
We just seem to have different definitions of what "make an impact" means...I just don't get it why, while i respect the fact that you think Ruslana made a bigger impact, you don't seem to respect my point of view...Do we really have to agree on this? No.And if you ask people in here some of them will agree with you and some others-to your surpise-with me...

Timoteij & AGAMA in Town [60047]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:37:14

@ dimitris calling

Most of this is just your personal opinion. I think this discussion is pretty useless. If you like the song that's fine... I like it aswell, it was my 2nd in 2004 so it's not as I dislike it.

But it's silly when people uses their TASTE to describe impact...

anyone can say that their favorite entry is a classic la la la...

And again you speak for other people when you can only speak for yourself. You say that "people recall it as classic".. well YOU do... so don't put words in other people's mouth.

Let's just end this because it's silly.

If you think that your taste is the measure of a classic and a song's impact then go ahead lol

dimitris calling [57630]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:31:35

Timoteij
Becayse i don't want to sound arrogant,i will try to elaborate on my argument..
I don't usually measure the impact of an entry based on some random chart success..If an entry creates a new trend,if it inspires other artists,if years after, people recall it as a classy entry that changed eurovision history a bit that's what really counts for me...And to narrow it down to the past decade there weren't many winners that had this kind of impact.Sertab was one,Zelijko(even if he was 2nd)and maybe Alexander Rybak(time will tell)... :)

Timoteij & AGAMA in Town [60047]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:26:58

@ dimitris calling

Well impact is impact and taste is taste. Just because YOU think the other is better you can't speak for the rest of the world. Maybe it's a classic for you, but maybe not for others so the ONLY thing we actually can measure somehow is the actual impact the song made in markets etc. and with impact we don't speak about personal taste, because that's something totally different.

And it's not true that all winners make the most impact. Look at 2001 for instance. Does anyone remember the winner? nope... but atleast Antique (3rd place) got a hit in some countries.

And we can goo long back aswell to see the same thing when runner-ups made more impact than winners... for instance "Congratulations" & "Volare", none of these won yet people in general remember these because they actually made impact, and much more than the winners.

But in this case Ruslana made bigger impact than "Lane Moje". You have to separate impact from personal taste.

dimitris calling [57630]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:13:06

please Timoteij stop that! It's annoying!Eurovision winners always get much publicity at first and they do well in some charts..When all the noise goes down then we can realize clearly who was the best...I hope this ends here...

now as for Slovakia..Congratulations Kristina for a well-deserving victory...
This is a winner song, no doubt..
A sure qualifier yes,a winner?no....Maybe a top-10 placing which would be awesome i guess...
.This is a winner song, no doubt..

Timoteij & AGAMA in Town [60047]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:07:54

@ dimitris calling

Lol you don't have to agree who was the better but you can't deny the impact.

Look at charts etc. and you will see who had most impact. It's just silly to argue when facts speak against.

dimitris calling [57630]
Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:07:21

....so there is no use trying to convince me... :)
Maybe "wild dances" had an impact to the baltic countries and "lane loje" to the balkans...I will always believe that Serbia was the rightful winner in 2004 and you will always go for Ukraine.I don't want to convince you about anything...

i don't know if it's a winner song, but it's definitely a certain qualifier and that's important for Slovakia.

Sat 27 Feb 2010 23:01:51

So if we talk about what was the best song, obviously it's a matter of taste but if we talk about what song that made the most impact, then obviously Ruslana did and there's no use in denying it.
Timoteij i will NEVER agree with you on that!

I remember last year when Norway chose its song, people were very pleased with the results. Same thing is happening this year but with Slovakia...This is a winner song, no doubt...By miles and miles, is the best song chosen this year and most likely will be the best of all. Eurovision 2011 in Slovakia!!!!

Rougemont D'Castile [13439]

Finally a song that i really love. This is the best song this year by miles! It's gorgeous and unique. Go Kristina!

Sat 27 Feb 2010 22:49:25

@ dimitris calling

I know you are from Greece and offcourse anyone are entitled to like whatever song they want.

But to say that "Lane Moje" is more a "classic" than "Wild Dances" is just not accurate because it didn't make any actual impact, while "Wild Dances" atleast became a hit in several countries and people outside of ESC-fanbase and that has no connection to Balkan region still remember it.

Her for instance it is still played in clubs.

So if we talk about what was the best song, obviously it's a matter of taste but if we talk about what song that made the most impact, then obviously Ruslana did and there's no use in denying it.
