Song to be significantly different
UK: Mike Stock speaks of change
Mike Stock the co-writer of the United Kingdom's song in this years Eurovision Song Contest has announced that the version of that sounds good to me which was performed on Your Country Needs You, on Friday night, is not the version which will represent the nation in Oslo, in May. The song is to be completely revamped to suit Josh's voice. Stock has stated that he is "now busy getting together the final version which will be significantly different from what has already been served up." As well as testing numerous styles includinig a version with just a piano accompaniment.
Stock has stated that he has taken into consideration the views and comments of people with regards to the original version of the UK's entry in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest and will keep this in mind when creating the new version of That sounds good to me.
Your country needs you, the show in which Josh Dubovie was selected to represent the United Kingdom in Oslo, was viewed by 2.9 million people, which is 4 million less than the 6.9 million viewers that the 2009 edition of Your country needs you achieved.
The original version of the 2010 entry for the United Kingdom, Josh Dubovie That sounds good to me.
The United Kingdom will participate in the Final on the 29th of May, due to it being part of the Big 4. The UK achieved 5th place in Moscow last year whenrepresented by Jade Ewen and her song My Time, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

@ james kennedy have you read the new article about the hosts, it confirms that voting will be open during the entire show. so it seems it is abundantely clear that the EBU would do such a thing
Boy oh boy! What this song really needs is a SAW key change before the final chorus! LOL :-)
Very poor entries all round this year I only like CYPRUS,Turkey Ireland and Belguim with a sneaky liking for the Netherlands. And why have the BBC not given us a messageboard?????????????????? ??????????????????????/
James
Sorry but I think the other rob is right. I too remember reading somewhere that the phone lines are to be open from song 1 this year - not after they've finished.
Where are you getting all the phone lines opening earlier business?. It is abundently clear that the EBU would not do such a thing like that because it would be unfair to the countires performing last. Phone lines have always been closed until all the songs have been performed and the EBU would never consider such a thing in the future.
Ooh the phone lines opening earlier - Interesting.
Also to win he must wear a white suit á la Logan lol. The song definitely needs a keychange.
i dont real need to be ban i am only tell true a bouth eurovision if people dont like it i real dont care uk have not had bad songs over years scooch was great daz love it andy was shit this year uk one of best uk gone with for years i will not be total shut up my wank
rob whos look like a pig from russia leave me a lone
1.please get the Freemasons in to mix the song.
2.throw Josh at Louie Spence for a day to learn charisma.
3.keep those 'hot lips' t-shirts on the dancers - love em.
4.change the key - sounds flat to me.
5.insert key change somewhere - this is eurovision hehe.
With the sixth UK Euro act this century beginning with the letter J i wih it well, very 80s so far but a good singer, at least he remembered the words, good luck Josh in Oslo..
Julie- we would probably benefit from being on early in the show as I believe voting lines are going to be open from the beginning- so for the first time, it will benefit those songs who are on early
I think with some improvements we may do better. It's not a bad song I quite like it. With a revamp and a good stage performance and good draw (ie on near the end we may stand a chance) because it's one of those catchy songs that you start humming and can#t get out of your head.
The show was a complete shambles and although Josh is a good singer (the best out of a very bad bunch) I would have love Steps to reform for Eurovison and sing this song.
PLEASE REMOVE THE OBSCENE TRACK BY TOM JONES 2 BELOW- THERE IS NO NEED FOR THAT
At the end of the day we all are eurovision fans, all with different opinions and views on the song/ singer- it is healthy to have debates but when someone as ignorant as him puts comments on like that he deserves to be barred for life
I am crossing my fingers for success in Oslo for UK although I will base my future hopes upon hearing the finished version of That Sounds Good To Me. I hope the song title hasn't jinxed us like it did a few years ago when the song was called Don't Play That Song Again (and Europe didn't!!). Hopefully Europe like Josh's song and doesn't retaliate with a "No it doesn't sound good to me!" Good luck Everyone and PS. Can someone remove "Tom Jones'" comment below mine? Offensive and doesn't even make sense!!
LAST YEAR MOST YOU WAS PUT DOWN UK ANY WAY JOSH GREAT
AND SONG WILL DO WELL UK WILL BE LAST MORE LIKE RUSSIA OR IRELAND OR FUCK NORWAY SHUT FUCK ASS HOLES GET FUCK LIFE WE ALL NOT BEST SONG WHO YOUR FUCK NEIGHBOURS ARE WHY FUCK AXE FUCK OF EUROVISION ALL BAD FUCK THINGS MUST COME TO END
Yes Telex, you're absolutely correct. Mike Stock has only ever on a few occasions pulled a song 'Off the shelf' to use with an artist. Usually when a record company were calling for an album in 2 weeks or whatever. 9 times out of 10, he sat the artist down, spoke to them, got to know them & about their personality & wrote a song that was individual and personal to them. Rick Astley about his girlfriend at the time 'Never gonna give you up', Jason Donovan about his love for Kylie 'Too many broken hearts', Mel & Kim about their love of nightclubs and attitude 'Respectable' & 'Showin out' could go on & on.
People have also been saying, this sounds 80s or dated, or a Big fun or Steps reject. Well this is just product identity. Yes If the same person wrote 200 songs there are going to be some similarities aliong the way ,same as a Van gogh or Picasso painting had similarities. SAW were the most successful sound of the 80s so of course anything they do will have elements of their 80s sound. Apart from this pure pop music has been dead since the turn of the Millenium and the majority of pop music we get now is Imported from the U.S. and is heavily RnB influenced. This is the Eurovision song contest not the trans Atlantic music festival so I feel we should try to sound as European as possible & I feel Pete & Mike are doing a fine job this far.

See this is really my point. The song was written with Kylie in mind to suit her voice and persona. Last year Andrew Lloyd Webber must have had a reasonable idea who was going to at least be in the final so he had a bit more to go on if you like.
To write a song to work 100% for SIX totally different acts is another story altogether though because there are so many variables to consider (pitch, harmonies, tone, gender, age etc) so the best you can do is to try and create something reasonably universal which I believe Mike Stock and Pete Waterman have done. NOW the work can begin on making it right for Josh and for Eurovision.
Yes Telex, you're right. In that timescale it IS near impossible to come up with the goods. But Stock/Aitken/Waterman have done it before. When Kylie Minogue appeared at the PWL studios they weren't even expecting her & Mike Stock hadn't even heard of her. Yet he sat down and wrote 'I should be so lucky' in half an hour while she waited in reception and it went on to be a SMASH number 1 single for 6 weeks & her album went multi platinum. She is STILL around today all thanks to those 22 Hit records Mike Stock wrote and produced for her.
Mark Anthony
You are the voice of reason
I believe if anyone has let the public down this year, it's the BBC NOT the songwriting team or singer/s. It must be incredibly frustrating to try and produce a song under extreme pressure and on a timescale to meet the demands of the BBC.
I mean, how is it even POSSIBLE to create any kind of masterpiece when you don't even know the gender of the singer? The song will be finely tuned and fitted around the artist now we know who that will be.
Next year I think the BBC should consider the one singer and six songs format used for Michael Ball and Sonia's efforts.
Just for anybody else interested in Mike Stock/Pete Waterman's ranking as writers/producers check this page out http://www.britishhi(...)riters.com/page3.htm between them they've had something like 22 U.K number one singles & sold in the region of 500,000,000 records worldwide. Anybody challenging their repetoire & ability come back when you've achieved this LOL
I think they need to dance it up like Iceland and Euroband, the start of this song was brilliant but really needs a good base beat and key change etc to flat for too long.
gena wales, you can write & produce better can you ? Let's hear it then! Come on, you get yourself in front of a microphone & post it up on U Tube put your money where your mouth is. You can write better than the most successful British songwriter/producer this country has ever seen ? That's laughable.
Why is Mike Stock's statement laughable ? Mike & Pete had to produce 6 different backing tracks for 6 acts in the space of a couple of weeks, all in different keys to suit each act. In this space of time you cannot produce 6 finished polished studio backing tracks that will suit each act so a basic track was produced for each act just to see if they could sing the song, the 'bells & whistles' will be added later. The backing tracks are tailored to suit the voice & it was impossible to create the final version without knowing who was going to sing it.Why would you waste time in the studio creating a finished track that didn't suit the singer ?
That would be madness it's not Karaoke. Everybody was given a fair chance but only 3 of the acts performed well enough to be considered by the public & have a shot at the song. Those 6 acts were found from a casting call, not by the BBC but by 'Jayne Collins casting agency' . Anybody was welcome to audition for it, a circular was even sent out on Facebook so the general public were all invited to audition it wasn't an in house operation and there wasn't time to stage an X factor type contest. Pete Waterman/Mike Stock had nothing to do with choosing the final 6 ,they just knew they had to work with whoever the public eventually chose & fair play to them for pulling this together so quickly.
As for the song/performance, I'm getting tired of reading all the negativity. When we came last with Jemini & near bottom with Scooch THE PUBLIC chose those acts/songs when there were FAR superior songs & acts on offer. When the BBC try to pull something better together everybody sits & whinges we'll get last place again before the song is even finished. You can't win, I just think some people get off on sitting at their PC bitching anything & everything and are never happy.
I dont know what you can do to make the song better its pants.......like i have said before its like its been wrote in five minutes I could do a better job.The only bit I like is the first ten seconds then its downhill. It needs to be scraped and a new song WRITTEN. and sorry Josh I am sure you are a nice lad but you arent good enough to represent the UK. tHIS YEAR IS A JOKE,and the BBC clearly dont want to win.
Well thats a laughable statement that Mike Stock made regarding revamping the song to suit Josh's voice.
Was it the producers plan that the song was only ever going to suit one singer. That to me is not fair on all the contestants
How can a version of a song be as bad as the one that was given to all the singers, be that bad in the first place.
What about the other singers in the competition who maybe could have sung the song as well as Josh, had the song been written properly in the first place.
They must be gutted to hear that it is now been rewritten to suit Josh, why was there not a seperate version done to suit all the acts and then everyone would have had a fair crack of the whip.
That to me says a lot about the stupid way the BBC organised this event in the first place, the producers should be linched, because they clearly have not got a clue about music.
Three of the acts did not get a chance to sing the chosen song at all,so who's to say who the song was best suited to for instance Karen Harding.
The contestants should not have been given the waterman oldie songs to sing. They should have been given a song that suited ther vocal ability or songs of their choice and then let the public judge.
As it goes,i feel for the other contestants who took part in that awful excuse for a show, and i have to say, there are some songs that are equally as bad as this song in this years eurovision. But is it not cheating, beign allowed to revamp a song after the version of the song had already been decided upon.what next?.
i'm glad they're reworking the song for eurovision but if you listen to the song when you're really drunk it's not that bad...
So many drama queens so quick to judge, before they even know the final version.
So true! lol XD
