Vasyl Lazarovich to participate
Ukraine: National Final on March 20th
A hastily organised press conference was called today by NTU at 16:00 CET in Ukraine to announce the plans for the forth coming national selection format. NTU are under a tight deadline as they must be able to formally present their representative and song to the Eurovision Song Contest - Heads of Delegation meeting in Oslo, on Sunday.
A new president of the state controlled broadcasted NTU today, Egor Benkendorf, was appointed by the new government of Ukraine. Song artists in Ukraine recently complained over that the current Ukrainian representative for Eurovision 2010, Vasyl Lazarovich, was selected internally and this was an unfair competition to anyone who wished to participate in the running to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The new format will comprise of two qualifying rounds to be held tomorrow March 18th and 19th with a televised National Final to be broadcast live on NTU on Saturday March 20th.
In connection with the lack of funding to the National Television Company of Ukraine to host the qualifying round, the organisers appealed to the leadership of the new channel and studio Savik Shuster "for help in organizing the qualifying round."
The first stage of the qualifying round will be held tomorrow March 18th at 08:00 CET to 17:00 CET in the "Savik Shuster studios". In the first stage, will be open to all wishing to participate, subject to the requirements of the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest, ie. song mustn't be publically broadcast before October 1st, 2009 etc. In the first phase 20 finalists will be selected. It is unclear whether international particpants may enter the competition.
The results of the first phase will be presented at 18:30 CET in the broadcast program "Shuster Live" (TRK Ukraine).
On Friday, the second stage begins, with 20 second previews of the songs being broadcast across various broadcasters in Ukraine all day. At 22:00 CET, "Shuster Live" (TRK Ukraine) will broadcast all 20 songs in full.
On Saturday evening during a gala concert which will be broadcast live on Ukrainian television broadcaster NTU at 19:00 CET, a national final will be held which will determine the winner.
Full documents required for entrants is available on the unofficial website of the competition here.
In turn, Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Mikhail Kulinyak reported that the singer Vasily Lazarevic agreed to participate in the new selection round.
In addition, the winner will be declared by a televote and jury, but this as of yet remains unconfirmed. More than 50 people have declared their intention to participate in the qualifying round.
Vasyl Lazarovich was already selected to be the representative for Ukraine, internally by NTU earlier this year with the song "I love you".

@City flyer
Wasn't that in 2004?
@ City flyer
People here are very unfair. Don't blame Ukraine first of all, blame EBU that doesn't stick to their rules.
And Ukraine is no exception. Countries have changed their entries in the past too... so if they were allowed, then it would be hypocritical by EBU to say no this time around. And EBU has been accepting way worse things than this too...
I think EBU must be clearer with the rules till next year, but so far this year; Belarus changed their winning song from Musical Court and also presented a new act that weren't the original one (although the winner in Musical Court is part of this new act aswell, but still it is not the one that won; not the song and not the line-up)...
In 2005, Belarus changed their winning song and France did this too in 2006. EBU could have been clearer with the rules after these two years, but they haven't been.
so blame EBU for being too easy on their own rules... don't blame Ukraine.
@ Aaron Joseph
Well they can manage without your support for sure *lol*
Anyway alot of unknown names here...
My support goes to Natalia Valevskaya, if she has a similar song as this one (folkpop) or some other type of modern uptempo; http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=wzg65CHVpcA
She's hot!
I will not be voting for Ukraine whatever song they send.
What if Vasyl wins again?
I'd laugh a lot!!!!

Yerevan
Not only post Soviet, some EX Yugo countries also!
Tbh i don't care if they break the rules, as long as they choose a better song than the dirge the chose earlier this year =L
The decision by the EBU to allow Ukraine to stage a new final is absolutely ludicrous. Rules are made not be broken by Ukranian corrpution. Ukraine did the same in 2005 after Ani Lorak won the original NF, then the new orange government decided to re run the contest because they wanted a revolutionary song which they got and it nearly came last! So now they get another chance ....it is unfair on other countries who may also want a re run. Also Ukraine has now heard all the songs except France and they now get the chance to better them all ...so I now fully expect Ukraine to be declared winner for 2010 ....winning by cheating. The EBU should not have allowed this ...they are to blame. Sorry but it is true!
What nice events!! This could happen only in post sovietic country!! Years are going on, but the mentality is still the same in all countries!
A smart decision. There is still hope for Ukraine....
Belgium is the winner this year... best song by far.
I agree with you that the standard this year is very low.But i think that countries with poor songs think that they can have a chance with juries.so we have to wait and see.I'm sure that there can be a black horse in the contest.
I just looked the list of all the chosen songs so far in the ESC am I the only one who thinks that the standard this year is so low
I like how democratic is the selection in ukraine...
(in other hand the eurovision will be nicer without i love you)
@Ozi not, ...LOL but im curius about something, Ukraine make too finals to send good song to Oslo or to get money from televoting?
Ozi,
good question.
You, guys, come on!!! Yes, Ukraine has very little time to get ready!!! Yes, it's a lot to be done in just few days! But when a singer from nobody knows where openly and directly talks about how he "organized" his victory at the National Selection by means of personal connection, bribes, ect., it's really NOT cool at all!!! It would be a share if our show biz would sit quetly and watch this happening!!! I believe Ukraine made a right desicion! If you check out our media articles about Vasyl, you will be amazed. Almost nobody wrote a single good word about how he was selected!!! To be selected the way he was is the privilage of Ukr top stars!!! Rest have real contest. So why Vasyl should have been an exception?!?! Cheers to all!!!
Will they be giving back the money to those who voted by phone in the last Ukrainian finals?
@Luis & Vatroslav
The deadline for delivering participating entries is 22nd March.
But these three-four remaining days, unfortunately, seem to be enough for Ukraine to carry out this shameful re-election in a full hurry. The repeated National Final entails, of course, additional expenses but political pressure seems to be stronger than the financial problems their national tv broadcaster has been facing.
*But with
@Marko
But I with RnB-ballad her voice isn't so good!
I prefer a fast RnB-song from her!
Kenan
Jury will decide!
And "Drip Drop" is pure RnB ballad!
The 20th >.> I don't want to wait!
I want announcements (and mp3s of studio versions) now.
@Marko
And who will decide, which song to send? Public? Juries? I personally think that Azerbaijan can't win with any of these 3 songs!
As I said many times before, Safura should sing a song in her own style ( RnB )!
Kenan
No, I only know those 3 songs which are possible Azeri entries, and I hope for "Drip Drop"!
