Ukraine: NTU granted extended deadline to select song

Yesterday, ukrainian broadcaster NTU, announced in a statement that they are investigating the song 'To Be Free' by Alyosha which won the ukrainian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. After detailed analysis of the song 'To be free' which won the ukrainian national selection for Eurovision 2010, NTU have concluded that the song does not meet the requirements of EBU.

esctoday.com reported yesterday, that NTU are investigating the issue of plagiarism over the song selected for the Ukraine for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, read here

NTU have now released the results of their investigation.

After negotiations with European Broadcasting Union (EBU) executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Svante Stokselius, NTU have proposed to change the song that national final winner Alyosha will sing. NTU along with the jury are currently selecting a song for the singer to sing at the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Oslo, Norway.

According to the head of the Ukrainian delegation Viktoria Romanova, who is in Oslo attending the Heads of Delegations meeting of all participating countries, "Ukraine has to submit all documents on the new song in Oslo no later than Friday, March 26th 2010."

Now after reading the comments here I'm thinking, should Ukraine really participate this year now? Is it worhwile? I mean, every1 is so angry to Ukraine that highly likely nobody will vote for Ukraine and will get a bottom place! :S :(

@Marko

Well, it depends! :D If Ukraine would send smth. like 'Shady Lady' again, then I would be happy, but with that song they selected now ( To Be Free ), then I wouldn't miss them so much, but actually all the ESC-fans want ALL the countries in ESC whatever which song they send, right? :)

@Marko

Now should I agree with you or not? :) :P Ukraine's childish act goes on my nerves, but on the other side, it would be a big lost for an ESC-fan if Ukraine would withdraw! :S

Dimitris
Noooo please don't believe that I have flexible ethics!! :( :( Please Dimitri...I'm just tire of problems in the contest, isn't it better without them? :)
I wrote several times that Ukraine should withdraw this year and return next year, that will be the best for all!!

@Marko
That's just having really flexible ethics i.m.o!You find it reasonable and fair to boo a joke entry,this doesn't ruin the fun music atmosphere but to boo a country for a foul play is bad...I strongly disagree but you can have your own way of seeing things...

Dimitris
maybe it is, but I wanna have fun with ESC, i'm tired of those stupid problems! and in Athens booo for LIT and ICE was even better than this you suggest, coz i don't wanna ESC to turn into circus with entries like they had, also in Belgrade we had booo for EST, IRE and ESP! tho i don't support it, I think it's better than this one you suggest, coz I wanna stop incidents FGS!! :S

@marko
this is just turning a blind eye to foul play!Not really nice...Besides there has been some serious booing for unimportant reasons...People were booing Lithuania in Athens 2006 because they didn't like a joke entry..or they are booing Cyprus and Greece everytime they exchange 12 pts...So everything in not perfect even if you want to believe so...At least,this is a case that a protest is more than reasonable...The booing will go str8 to NTUos or Ichtimai's ears...

Dimitris
With this:
That will force the commentators expalin to the televoters of every single country why this is happening and for future compliance with the rules!
I know what will you explain me now, about democratic choices etcetcetc.........but I'm sick of that and I just wanna calm atmosphere in ESC and not them to report about bad things during ESC but about smth good and positive! there is enough negative things outside contest, really don't need to make it into one HUGE SCANDAL!!! Capish?? :D

Marko Astronaut [60087]
Mon 22 Mar 2010 21:41:25

I hope that what Dimitris suggest won't happen coz I don't wanna ESC to become one huge SCANDAL with problems and ppl to focus on problems, but on MUSIC!

I guessi joined esctoday too late :)
However what is really disappointing is that the only ukrainian i saw in here(oleg-UA)seems to believe there is nothing wrong with their national selection...Imagine if the winner of M.F was accused of such things and they still were to send him to Oslo!

But the question is should the artists have to suffer (through booing them) because of the broadcasters actions?

@Ozi
Of course!they represent the broadcaster and the country not just themselves!!!Plus,Alyosha actually is a cheater but still she will be singing in Oslo!

I read so many posts by people wondering why EBU didn't take severe measures...Well it's obvious!Ukraine is a country of approximately 50 million people,thus many tv viewers,more calls-sms,more ads.Money guys!It's simple as that... :)On the other hand, noone could stop eurofans from booing Ukraine in Oslo... :)

WE HAVE TO DO IT... I (AND HOPEFULLY LOTS WITH ME) WILL BOE AZERBIJAN AND UKRAINE..... IF YOU CAN NOT PLAY WITH THE OTHERS AND FOLLOW THE MAIN RULES, STAY OUT..

I'll have to agree with Axel Kearns(one of the few times i admit)!Every eurofan who will be in the venue should boe them...That will force the commentators expalin to the televoters of every single country why this is happening and for future compliance with the rules!I think it will be effective!

Yes but it has happened before, I don't see why it can't happen now as well since there were problems with the songs.

@Paschalis
i don't really remember what exactly happened in 2006 but i guess they didn't organize 2 national finals,annuling the first one because the singer was selected-as they now claim- in a non legitimate way,then having a second N.F where the chosen singer obviously admitted to have cheated however decide to keep her and just change the song...They could do the most reasonable thing :Select from the runner-ups and give the ticket to the first one that meets the EBU rules...Keeping the cheater is something i've never heard before...Imagine if this was happening in Greece or in any other European country!

Well they can do as they wish! whatever they do I will not vote for them. Sorry Ukraine :(

I liked Vasyl and his song :(

Well please dont tell me that corruption is a problem of ex-soviet countries only. Now when we know that WHO experts got salary from vaccine manufacturers for imposing H1N1 pandemic all over the world, when we know that data due to global warming were forged...
Just compare the scale of corruption!

I would not like talking about politics but if you insist...
Well please dont tell me that corruption is a problem of my country alone or Eastern countries. Now when we know that WHO experts got salary from vaccine manufacturers for imposing H1N1 pandemic all over the world, when we know that data due to global warming were forged...
