Baltic acts nominated at MTV Music Awards

For the first time, the MTV European Music Awards will have a category called Best Baltic act. Among the nominees, there are several former Eurovision Song Contest entrants.

BrainStorm, Skamp, Vanilla Ninja and Tanel Padar are all among the nominees. Erica Quinn Jennings, lead singer of Skamp, is happy about the nomination: "We were glad to hear that the MTV European Music Awards will finally have a best Baltic nomination. I think everyone will agree it's long overdue but also it's a great opportunity for people all over Europe to 'discover' the Baltic music scene. Of course we're even more happy to be nominated and will definitely be travelling to Copenhagen. It's a good feeling to know we'll be going to our first MTV awards show as nominees rather than just spectators. It should be a fun night for everyone". Meanwhile, Skamp are producing a new DVD and album called SKAMP LIVE! this month.

BrainStorm were the first Eurovision entrants for Latvia back in 2000. With their song My star, they reached third place. Reynars Kaupers, lead singer of the band, co-hosted the contest in 2003. Skamp represented Lithuania one year later with You got style, which finished 13th. Tanel Padar won the contest for Estonia the same year, together with Dave Benton, and the song Everybody. The group Vanilla Ninja are from Estonia, but represented Switzerland in 2005 with Cool vibes. Their 8th place in the final was the best Swiss result in twelve years.

The show will be broadcast on 2nd November from Copenhagen, Denmark, hosted by Justin Timberlake. Internet voting is going to decide who will receive the awards. You can vote here.
