The Sasha son interview
What kind of a song should it be to get your vote in the Eurovision Song Contest?
The general performance is very important when you're giving your vote to some song. I wouldn't say that the show is the most important thing in this contest, especially when last year a lyrical song won. That means that the vocals are still very important in Eurovision, so I would say that the vocals are in the first place for me. Talking about music style - it doesn't matter for me. I love rock, pop, R&B songs but if the song is performed with bad vocals I would never vote for it.
Are you with those who say that the show is the most important thing in the contest?
Surely no. It is important but not the most important factor. I don't deny there should be some show elements, anyway, it’s a television contest. But personally for me the vocals are very important.
How long did it take for you to create the performance we have seen in the semi final?
Miss Kiss was written about a year ago. Before the semi final I rehearsed a lot. But I never told that the performance must look very strictly, we can always improve and change it. Probably you remember when the judges said, in the semi final, that the worst thing in the performance is that the dancers and me looking like two different acts. We are trying to solve this problem and I will be involved in the dance routine as well.
Would you sacrifice quality for popularity?
When I was little and when I sang the song "Mama", people always asked me if I enjoyed the popularity and if I wanted more. To be honest - I never thought about it. I didn't think what would be if I was even more popular than I am now. So my answer is that I am happier when I sing the songs that I love.
Why are you going to Eurovision?
I already participated in the preselection last year with my friend and our band was called "U Soul" but it wasn't that successful. This year I've decided to participate alone because I think that the song looks better when it's performed by a solo artist. Also my band mate missed his family a lot, that's why he came back to the United Kingdom. One more reason to participate is that I want to show to people that I can sing more than just soul music, I can sing popular music as well. I would love to sing soul, but I want to prove that I am able to sing everything.
What can we expect from you on the big night of the National final?
I don't think many things will change but as I said before, the performance will change a bit. Also I am working hard on the vocals to make my performance the most perfect it can be. The elements of the show might change but I won't reveal any special details until the 2 February. And there won’t be any backing singers, just like in the semi final. I don't think s that Miss Kiss demands backing singers. I want to let it be very simple but very effective as well.
What are your wishes to all contestants and to yourself?
Good luck, that's all we need!
